Rec Board briefs
At the regular mccting of the
South Huron Rec Board Wednes-
day night, the General Govern-
ment Committee proposed to in-
crease the wages of the summer
pool staff.
Urged by a special delegation
of lifeguards who came_ to the
Board meeting last fall with a
number of grievances and sug-
gestions, Rec Director Lynne
Farquhar devised a formula for a
new pay scale based on qualifica-
tions and experience.
Starting at a base rate of S4.55
per hour, wages in the formula
increase according to the qualifi-
cations and experience of the em-
ployee with a maximum of
S6.00 per hour going to the head
supervisor of the pull. Last year, -
supervisors made S5.35 per
hour.
Farquhar estimated that the
changes in wages would rnakc an
overall difference of S2,000 in
the pool budgets:
The Rec Director also revised
the pool staff work schedule to
insure that lifeguards are not
over-worked, noting that having
alert lifeguards is imperative to
the safety of swimmers.
The Board favoured) the recom-
mendations, hut sent them back
into. committee so that a plan
may be devised to off -set the ex-
tra cost of the wage. increase.

The General Government
Committee has been approached
by the South Iluron Association
for the Alentally Handicapped
with a request to integrate their
youngsters into the Board's regu-
lar play program.
The plan would require,one ex-
tra co-ordinator ( the programat
present employs three leaders in
the summer) but grants would
cover all extra wages.
Though the idea is only in a
"discussion stage", the consensus
was that th .. Rcc Board would
support the idea providing it
posed no additional cost.

A motion was carried recom-
mending a bylaw be passed by
Town Council to specify parking
at the South Iluron Rec Centre.
The Facilities Committee
made a number of suggestions,
among them that -there be con-
trolled parking at all major
events, and that a fire route six
metres wide be established on the
north and cast sides of the build-
ing.
The committee also recom-
mended that areas on either side
of the Emergency Vehicle route
at the main entrance be designat-
ed for handicapped parking. The
special parking zones have al-
ready been dealt with in a bylaw,
but no proper signs have been
postal.

It was noted at the Wednesday
night meeting that the Facilities
Committee is in the process of
applying for a grant to insulate
and reside the South Huron Rcc
Ccntrc
It was suggested that the walls
be cladded in stages, perhaps in
two -toned colours. To that Jim
Chapman added: "With a big
logo on the side and slots to drop
money .in."
