Times-Advocate, 1988-02-24, Page 21BIG HAUL --Team Circus racers Trevor Edwards, Gerry Edwards and Brian Eickmeier, all of Kirkton, are sur-
aunded by the 13 first -place trophies they won at the Ontario World Series snowmobile drag racing competition in
Peterborough on the weekend.
Team Circus cleanse
the three othcr classes he entered: C
Stock, C Improved Stock and B
Stock.
No tear -down resulted.
Thirteen -year-old Gerry Edwards
again claimed first place finishes in
Junior one (C Stock) and Junior
two (D Stock) to finish the weekend
as the top junior driver.
Wolfe, again running the Phazcr
in C Stock was put out in his heat.
The Phazer will be back for future
races after some changes have been
made to make it more competitive.
Eickmeier was experiencing
clutch and belt problems on Sunday
and was not satisfied with the Excit-
ers results. He still managed to pull
out a win in B improved Stock, a
third in B Stock and a fourth in A
Improved Stock.
Other sponsors for the team are
B&K Tire and Battery, Brodhagen,
Reynolds Fabricating, Mitchell,
Vcals Meat Market, Exeter.

Team Circus needed an extra vehi-
cle to bring home the hardware they
claimed recently at the World Series
Championship snowmobile races in
Peterborough.
Trevor Edwards, Gerry Edwards
and Brian Eickmeier combined to
capture 13 first place trophies at the
weekend long event.
Trevor Edwards aboard his Vcals
Meats, Exctcr sponsored XLV Ya-
maha proved unbeatable claiming
first place finishes in D Stock, D
Ilnproved-Stock, C Stock and C Im-
proved Stock - every class he had
entered.
Rumors of a tear -down surfaced
and for the second weekend in a
row, the engine was sealed so it
couldn't be tampered with and pre-
pared for a protest and a possible
tear -down after Sunday's racing, •
Gerry Edwards "Bear" ran the
XLV in Junior one and Junior two
and came away with wins in both
classes. It was his first time racing
in a World Series Class competi-
tion.
Brian Eickmeier of Kirkton run-
ning the Nulty Gully sponsored Ex-
citer finished first in both B Stock
and B Improved Stock. He also en-
tered A Stock and A Improved
Stock but failed to finish in the top
three.
Doug Wolfe of Mitchell running
a 1986 Phazer finished third in his
heat of C Stock but failed to make
the final.
Sunday, again it was a mad dash
to thc track with studs to sharpen,
clutches to clean, lubc to get ready,
belts to be checked and engines to
be aligned. All competitors had to
be finished and on the line by 9
a.m.
Sunday's racing proved to be less
successful than Saturday's.
Once again Edwards, aboard his
XLV, proved to be stiff competition
in each of his classes.
He claimed first place finishes in
both D Stock and D Improved
Stock and second place finishes in
Irish start playoffs on
Lucan Irish stumbled coming out
of the starting blocks in game one
of their best -of -seven series against
Lambeth Sunday when they lost 6-4
to the Southern front-runners.
Lambeth goalie Brian Morris
kicked out 49 Lucan shots on goal
while Paul Farrell, in net for Lucan,
faced only 22 shots.
"We out -shot them badly but their
goaltending kept them in the
game," said Jim Hearn, manager of
the Irish.
Ironically, it was Morris's depar-
ture from London's Diamonds
which prompted the Junior B club
to pick up Irish goalie Paul Wool -
ford.
Hearn said that, though Lambeth
is the favourite in the series, their
victory is far from assured,
"If the (Lucan) kids can put the ef-
fort in like they did last night, it'll
be a good series -- a Long -series we
hope," Hearn said Monday. "But
we're definitely the underdogs."
Lucan lost three and tied three in
six meetings with the first place
team this season.
Two goals less than one minute
apart and an early single in the sec-
ond left Lucan playing a game of
catch-up Sunday in Lambeth.
Goals by Paul Barnes and Scott
Denomy matched Lambeth's second
period efforts and Lucan went into
the third period trailing 4-2.
A goal by Ian Craig pulled Lucan
to within one goal early in the final
stanza but Lambeth's Mickic Du-
puis made it 5-3 just over one min-
ute later.
Tim Hayter kept things close
with a goal at 3:26 and Irish contin-
ued to threaten until, with 3:44 re-
maining in the game, Jcremic
Legion Peewees squeezed out
scored to win in sudden death.
Legion Peewees found their
way into the tournament by
downing Tavistock 2-1 Sunday
morning.
Jason Heywood and Mark
Lynn scored for Exeter: Assists
went to Ryan Lindenficld and

Fred Godbolt and Lindcnficld
scored for the Legion.
Lindcnficld, Lynn and Brint-

tied 1-1 at the cnd of the game.
Exeter's lone goal came from
Jeff Lingard with thc assist go-
ing to Ryan Stuart.
In the first overtime period,
nothing was decided. The two
teams matched goals. Exeter's
