HUGH MORENZ Shipk1 At the progressive . euchre held last Wednesday night at Shipka Community Centre there were nine tables with 12 games played. Winners were ladies high - Char- lotte Barker, Lucan, men's high - Ask steering committee for teacher report A steering committee established three years ago to review teacher ed- ucation in Ontario has been asked to deliver its recommendations for change this fall, Education Minister Chris Ward and Colleges and Uni- versities Minister Lyn McLeod said today. Between February and April, rep- resentatives of the steering commit- tee will meet with members of the educational community to discuss their proposals as they relate to ad- mission requirements, pre -service progratn, induction/apprenticeship and in-service programs. During the summer the committee will formu- late a set of recommendations that will be presented to the two mini- sters in the fall. • Last yearthe steering committee held discussion seminarsin six On- tario centres and received 200 writ- ten responses to a discussion paper issued early in 1987. Congratulations to Annie Ziel- man on the arrival of her. sixth grandchild, when a little girl was born to Susie and Wayne Robson of Essex. This is a little sister for Colin and Shcina. Hugh and 1 along with other friends that included Melvin and Gertic Siade, Earl Stebbins, all of Dashwood area, Lorne and Mildred Klopp and Ed Turnbull, all of Zu- rich, spent a social evening Thurs- day with Oscar and Laura Miller. TEMPIEMAN There was a good turnout of members and friends at the February meeting of the Ilibbert United Church Women, which was held in the Family Life Centre. The meeting began with a Pan- cake luncheon served by Margaret Christie and Mary F. Dow. Verle Mahon chaired the meeting with everyone sharing in the readings and worship service. Verle then ex- plained how to read a heart rate chart. Everyone enjoyed pictures and commentary of a trip to Alaska, this was presented by Verle Mahon and Ada Pethick, who had both vis- ited there. The business portion of the meet- ing was chaired by Gwen Christie, when members dealt with plans for their annual ham and strawberry supper on June 8, the Hibbert Unit- ed Church Women's meetings in June and July, their organizations contribution to seeds for Zaire, join ing in the Worla Day of Prayer ser- vice with the Cromarty Ladics in March. Personals The family of John and Robcrta Templeman celebrated their parents 40th wedding anniversary by taking them to dinner at the Tama Inn at 'New Hamburg in a white limo on Sunday February 14. There were 35 family members present. Many from this community were guests at the Malone -Finlayson wedding and reception in Seaforth, Saturday.
