Cottage, apartment or house on year round basis; furnished or unfurnished. Phone 238-5150. (7SA) Call it Blawday. Call it Coldday. Call it Heritage day. Call it any- thing but let's get,it proclaimed as soon as possible. Nothing is longer than the stretch from January 1, a holiday, to the next holiday in Canada's list of stat- utory days off. Good Friday comes too late in the year ( and I have al- ways wondered t'hy it was called Good Friday when it marks the cru- cifixion.) From January to Easter is a painful length of time, especially in Canada. Are you not sick, sore and tired of cold mornings, cars that won't start, flu, colds, chillblancs and winds that whistle piercingly through all your clothing? And yes, I know, this has not been a bad winter when compared with other Canadian winters of years gone by. I really do not need a comparison. I am old enough to re- member those winters, too, when the drifts were higher than hydro poles and roads were one way for miles. I can remember hitch -hiking to my home town to see my best girl in the winter of 1948 when the snow was actually touching the hy- dro wires. You can give me that old crap about the four seasons being won- derful and healthy and that winter makes Canadians hardy but 1 am not about to buy it anymore. I want to go on record here and now: I hate winter. I used to enjoy skating. I learned to skate on a millpond using frozen horsebuns as a hockey puck. At one time, 1 even liked a bit of downhill skiing until a rock and tree appeared on a hill where a rock and a tree should not have appeared and I gave up downhill skiing. I still like to go cross-country skiing every now and then but I could quite willingly forego this fading pleasure if February got can- celled. I have proposed -- and been laughed at -- that all of Canada should be closed for the month of February and all inhabitants be sent south for one month. The savings in fuel and energy would probably be enough to pay for the excursion. I would put the proposal to the house of Commons but 1 do not seem to get enough support. Therefore, 1 want it known that we need another holiday and we need it the third week of February and we need it now. Pierre Berton, one of Canada's most famous writers and a nation- alist if there ever was one, has suggested a February holiday to be called Heritage Day where all of us could celebrate our ancestry, when we'could tell each other what a wonderful country we live in. I'm behind the idea. We need something to break the monotony of one cold day after another. We need a Monday when we can set Sheep information at Clinton meeting The Ontario Sheep Marketing Agency, District 3, and the Huron Red Meat Sheep improvement Club will sponsor a special information meeting on Thursday, February 18, at the Ontario Ministry -,of Agricul- ture and Food Board Room, Clin- ton. . From I .to 1:30 p.m., there will be a chance to share "gems of sheep information" over refreshments. Then, the agenda will include-N•idcos about Sheep Handling; -Current State of the Sheep Industry and comments about handling facilities by Bill McCutchcon, Provincial Sheep Specialist. A brief report including general business of the Huron Sheep Im- provement Club will he led by gen- eral -business of the Huron Sheep Improvement Club will be led by . club president, Chris- Boettcher. _John Cuthbert, Canadian Co operative Wool Growers, Toronto, will present hints about wool han- dling.
