Good year for insurance company
At Monday's annual meeting of
the Usborne and 1 hbbert Mutual
Fire Insurance Company, policy-
holders teamed of another very suc-
cessfully financial year in.1987.
President Lorne Feeney of RR 2
Dublin told the •25 in attendance,
"\Vc had another good year with a -
- good surplus. The only bad news
is the resignation ofdirectorRob•
-
ert Chaffs because of illness."
- The financial report presented by
- secretary-managcr.Mike Cacrs indi-
cated a net income of $1,016,556.
This is only a slight reduction of
S67,000 from the previous year:
\Vhile net premiums were up by
- S121,000 over the year 1986, the
net income was reduced by a higher
. amount of claims paid out.• Cacrs
said," The number of claims this
past .year Was down to 269 from
the 1986 figure of 300, but we had
one major fire. This - brought the
overall total to S471,217. A year .
earlier the claims figure was
s289,595".
The secretary -manager went on
to say that operating costs were 22'
percent of premiums written. -Hc
added, "That's one of the lowest in
the province. Some companies run
as high as 61 percent with thc av-
erage alxwt 35":
Due. to the good surplus, direc-
tors decided to continue the policy
of returning refunds to the custom-
. crs of 30 percent of their premi-
ums, providing they have been po-
licyholders for at least three years.
