Canvassing next week
A canvass of the Village of Hen-
sall will be made during the next
week to ten days for the Heart and .
Stroke Foundation. We would like
to thank in advance the volunteers
who are marking The canvass .and.
the people who support this very

February 6 at Huron Centennial
School, Bruceficld.

Storm cancels skating carnival
Duc to the weekend storm many
local events were cancelled and post-
poned. Two such -events were the.
Celebration '88 awards ceremony
and the Hensall Figure Skating
Club's Skating Carnival entitled
"All Occasions". The parents com-
mittee has set the new date of
March 5 at the I lensall Arena, 7:30
p.m. Tickets are available- at the
door and everyone is welcome to
come out and watch our local
youngsters and guest skaters 'Su-
zanne Killing and Paul Mathison.
Three Links
The Three Links Seniors met in
the afternoon on February 9 and de-
cided to hold another Euchre Party
at the hall at 8 p.m. on February
23. Ladies please bring lunch.
Hostesses for last week's meeting
were Pat Volland, Irene Davis, Ei-
leen Rannic and Evelyn Flynn.
Euchre was played following the
meeting and winners were: lady's
high, Pearl Taylor; _ second Mary
Broadfoot; man's high, Emma
Campbell, second, Percy Campbell;.
lone hands, Pearl. Shaddick; lucky
cup, Walter Spencer. The Social
Committee was Vera And all Ross
and Dorothy Micklc.
United Church
A very Targe congregation was in
attendance at Youth Sunday at Hen-
sall United Church on Sunday.
Sharon Wurm led the service. "A
Religion that docs nothing, costs
nothing, suffers nothing - is. worth
nothing." Following hymns and
prayer the Junior Choir under the di-
rection of Mrs. Debbie Wood sang,
"l low Can I keep from Singing." •
Members of all youth groups:
Messengers, Explorers, Beavers,
Cubs, Venturers and Rover, along
with their leaders recited their pur
poses. Guest soloist Peter- Snell
performed his own composition ac-
companied -on his guitar.
Greeters at the door were, Beaver
Jerry Corbett, Cub -Shane Wilcox,
Scout Marc Tinncy and Venturers
Mark Brock and Andy Phillips. The
ushers were Scouts Rob Hoffman
and Steve Brock and Cubs Kris Lep-
pington, Scott Rcid and Jeff Rcid.
Carmel Presbyterian
Rev. Bob Bisset of Goderich pre-
sided in the pulpit at Carmel
Church in Hensall on Sunday Feb-
ruary 14. His sermon was based on
the season of lent "A Look With-
in". Mrs. Bisset accompanied the
hymns at the organ. .
Kippen
by Margaret Hoggarth
Kim Finlayson was more than
pleased when the snow storm sub-
sided on Saturday, to allow her to
follow through with her intended
wedding plans. The Kippen commu-
nity congratulates Kim on her mar-
riage to Bob Malone on Saturday
February at St. James Church in
Seaforth. Kim is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Garry Finlayson, and
Bob is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Len
O'Rourke.
Al and Margaret Hoggarth were
also glad the bad weather cleared up
on Saturday, and the highways were
open, so that they could attend Mar-
garet's Uncle Stan Sutherland's
birthday party, held in London.

Monday morning several residents
gathered in our bright and cozy sun-
room.to sip on tea, cat cookies and
watch the wintery scene outside. in
the afternoon everyone tried their
luck at Bingo with the Kippen.
United Church women..
Tuesday morning fun and finless
took place in the Activity room.
Rcv. Don Rodgers of the Exeter
Pentecostal Church lcd our worship
service in the afternoon. We thor-
oughly enjoyed Rev. Rodgers ser-
vice and also appreciated his son
Kevin who led. us as we-. sang sever-
al hymns accompanied by his gni,
tar.
Wednesday morning Quccnsway's
Ladies Auxiliary had a very produc-
tive mccting as they discussed many
upcoming cvcnts. In the afternoon
we welcomed ladics,of the Zurich
Mennonite• Church. They assisted
residents with Valentine Crafts and
helped decorate our (lining room for
our Valentine Celebration on Sun-
day.. Thank you ladies for the deli-
cious heart shaped cake you shared
with us.
Thursday residents attended our
movie presentation Iceland, "River
of Challenge". This movie was pro-
duced by National Geographic and
everyone found it very informative
and interesting.
Sunday morning coffee hour was
held in the Activity Room. We en-
joyed a relaxing hour of hot coffee
and fresh tea biscuits as we listened
to Gospel Music.
. Sunday aftcrnoon was very spe-
cial. AI Ropp and His Orchestra
joined s and entertained from 2
p.m. 1 4 p.m. at our Valentine par-
ty. We had lots of pink punch and
—delicious cake and ice cream served
by our ladies auxiliary. Marj Vcre
of Clinton was the lucky winner of '
the draw on a beautiful flol ar-
rangement. Genevieve Winxovcr,
Roily Greiner, Aleida Kats, Lloyd
Mcpougal I ' and Doug Needs won
prizes for wearing the most Rcd.
1Vc all had a very enjoyable after-
noon.

Hensall council has given its sup-
port to county -wide reassessment
under Section 70 proposed by Hu-
ron County.

As recommended by works super-
intendent John Baker, council will
discuss with B.M. Ross and Asso-
ciates the possibility of commis-
sioning a comprehensive road man..
agement study for the village.
"We've got no way of knowing
what we're going to do next year or
the year after that," said Baker.
Road management studies arc eli-
gible for a 50 percent subsidy from
the rpinistry of transportation.
