Teddy Smits was chairperson and Shirley Kerslake Plan Thames Road events By MRS. WILLIAM ROHDE Rev. K. Teddy Smits was in charge of the Sunday morning church service with a fair atten dance. In the children's story the ,Rev. Teddy Smits spoke about a little young fish who wished he could swim in the sea. He asked an- other young fish where to find the sea. The other young fish said "I have not found it myself". The little fish swam on, he met an old, wise fish and asked its question again. The old fish said, "Don't you know it? You have been in the sea all the time". People sometimes ask: Where is God? But God is all around us! In his sermon the Rev. Teddy Smits spokc about the Beatitudes, and took as his text, St. Matthew 5:5, 'Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. He quoted Dostoycvsky's story on how much land a man should own. A young farmer who was hungry for lots of land and prosperity made a trip to a region where he had heard land was freely available. He was told he could start at dawn, and be given as much land as he could encompass. The only condition : he must be back before the communty elders before sunset. The man began walk- . ing at sunrise. He took in the best land and kept including more and more, the little stream, the group of trees. . Suddenly he noticed that the sun was beginning to sink. He ran and ranand finally made it. As he reached the elders, he collapsed and died. We see many people who try to gather much of this world. Many have resorted to wars. Jc.:us-said: Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. To -day we see the people reaching for more and more. Jesus was not very weak, but He humbled Himself and gave His life so that we might live. Messengers The Messengers will hold their meeting on Monday, February 8 at 7 p.m. in Elimville United Church.
