It's Ontario's largest indoor exhi- bition of John Deere equipment and will be held Monday and Tues- day, February 8 and 9. It's the 13th edition. Huron Tractor continues to be one of Canada's top John Deere dealerships. During 1987 they had highest sales in Ontario and na- tionally were bested only by deal- ers in Red Deer, Alberta and Win- nipeg, Manitoba. Officials of the Tirm will be in Toronto this week attending the John Deere President's club awards dinner. The 15 largest dealers in Canada qualify for this award and Huron Tractor will be there for the 13th consecutive time. The company's name is engraved on a bronze plaque at John Deere world headquarters in Moline, Illi- nois. One of Huron Tractor's five part- ners, Jack Van Busscl said busi- ness was 'tremendous' during the months of October, November and December of last year. He continued, "Sales were real good for the just concluded month of January. All our sales people were busy.We arc looking forward to a good attendance at our fann in- dustry show.. It's our way of saying thanks to the farming community for doing business with us." • Several new products will be shown for the first time at this year's Exeter show. A cutaway model of a new hay- ing baler will be on display along with a new hay conditioner and an All Materials Transport vehicle. Bruce Hasselback of Huron Trac- tor says this new AMT five -wheel vehicle is a very safe utility ma- chine. It's made in Canada and is ideal for many around -the -farm chores including bush clearing and soil sampling. In talking about Huron Tractor's 51 employees, Van Bussel and Ha- selback said, "We have an excellent staff and we are proud of them. Each Christmas we give watches to those with 10 years service and now half of our employees have one." A new dual two -ton cube van is being acquired to add to the service now being provided to the farmer in his field. This will be oeprated by Bill Baker and will allow more tools, oil filters, batteries, etc. and a more comprehensive line of parts DISAPPOINT GROWERS Ontario soybean growers are very dissatisfied and disappointed with the announcement of Agriculture Minister John Wise's decision not to register the herbicide alachlor in Canada. "We were willing to accept the recommendations of the Alachlor Review Board, no matter what they decided; however, Wise chose to to- tally disregard the recommendations of his appointed board and seems to have little concern about the impact this will have on soybean and corn producers in Ontario. As Agricul- ture MInister, we feel that it is Mr. Wise's responsibility to represent the agricultural sector in parliament. This would also include Ontario's soybean growers," said Mr. Dob- byn, who represents Ontario's 25,000 soybean growers as Chair- man of the Ontario Soya-Bcan Growers' Marketing Board. The Alachlor Review Board hear- ings were a costly and time con- suming process for government, growers, chemical companies and environmental groups and proved to be of little use. The idea for this type of van was proposed by Herb Verbeck. The service shop has been busy all winter and Van Bussel says, "Winter service is a good way to prevent breakdowns and takes a big load off the peak season. We contin- ue with our motto, 'We are big on service'. Both men say Free Trade will have no effect on farm machinery. All equipment crosses the border duty free.
