Cemetery boardsurplus
cannot go to reserves
A recommendation from the Exet-
er cemetery board was turned
downed by council at the December
21 meeting.
Thc board expects a surplus of
about $10,000 on 1987 operations
and hoped to place that amount in a
reserve fund for future capital expen-
ditures.
When councillor Tom Humphreys
presented the recommendation for
placing monies in a reserve fund,
Reeve Bill Micklc, Deputy -reeve
Lossy Fuller and councillor Doro-
thy Chapman were quick to point
out this was against town policy.
They explainal surpluses arc to be
used in the following year's budget
and could reduce thc town's grant
which was $22,000 for 19.87 and re-
mains thc same in the budget for
next year.
Fuller added, " The board does an
excellent job in operating the ce-
metery, but we must abide by town
rules."
in the report, superintendent Harry
Knip recommended* that an extra po-
sition for a high school student be
made for next year to assist in flow-
er bed maintenance and grass cutting
from mid-June to the end of Au-
gust.
A bylaw regarding winter inter-
ment was arflended to allow for in-•
torment at the discretion of the su-
perintendent.
The original bylaw said no inter-
ment should take place from De-
cember 1. to April 15 because heavy
snow without the ground being fro-
zen creates deteripprraat' n to grounds
from machinery 4/hicmay take a
year to level and re -see(
