STAN PRESZCATOR On Sunday December 20 the ser- mon topic at Zion United Church was taken from Isaiah 2:1-5 and The readers write X4,134 Sanders St. E. Exeter, Ontario NOM' 1 SO - Dear Editor, We were pleased to see the picture write up about Anne Fydenchuck's winning of a silver medal in your paper on December 2, 1987. Our group, People First of South Huron, believe we as people with a disability want to be known as Peo- ple First, handicapped second. We want to be treated fairly and equally with respect. • If Anne were not handicapped the reference to her address would not have said "Group Home". It would have said that she lives on George Street. Anne lives in a house with her friends, she doesn't call •thcm tenants or support staff just her friends. Why would you? We feel you have labelled Anne handicapped by using the words group home, tenant and support staff. People First tries to show people in the community that people with disabilities arc human beings like everyone else. We want to be ac- cepted as part of the community. So please don't make us different by using labelling words to describe us. Yours truly Marg Kchn, Colleen Carter, Cam Define Steering committee members of People First of South Huron. Editor's note - The three terms in question were used by the person in charge of the George street resi- dence in describing Annc's accom- plishments. Luke 2:1-20 titled "Birth -Pangs of Peace".
