HomeMy WebLinkAboutTimes-Advocate, 1987-12-22, Page 31Clandeboye WI enjoy potluck The December meeting of the Clandeboye Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs. Gerald Lynn. Nine members and one visitor enjoyed a delicious pot luck meal at 12:30 noon. The program consisted of several Christmas readings, given by Hazel Williams, Marion Hodgson and Gla- dys Cunningham. A pie contest was conducted by Marion Hodgson. Christmas carols were sung accom- panied by Ruth Hill as pianist. During the business a donation was made to the Children's Hospital of Western Ontario and to give Christmas remembrances to six resi- dents at Craigholm Nursing Home and Apartments, who were former Clandeboye residents. Door prizes, donated by Jean Hod- gins were won by Hazel Williams and Gladys Cunningham. Christmas Service St. James Anglican Church, Clandeboye, held their Christmas service Sunday. The lessons were read by Rev. Bruce Pocock, assisted by Hazel, Allan and Gladys Cun- ningham, Alton and Louise O'Neil and Barbara Carter. The fourth ad vent candle was lit and several carols were sung. Presenting the Nativity play was Mary - Brenda Woodburn, Joseph - Jonathon Morgan, the Baby Jesus -,.a Wee, �dr�ta tape, thi ll m& to, wisham, / fiends, del and new, ct Happy and Safe Christmas and a prosperous New Year doll, shepherds - Kenneth Carter, Brad and Chris Goddard, the star of Bethlehem - Chris Morgan. Poems "Remember God's Creatures" was read by Jonathon Morgan and "I Love Him" by Janet O'Neil and "No Room" by Kenneth Carter, Chris and Brad Goddard.. A meditation of the symbols of Christmas was presented by "The Cast". A special thank you to Janet O'Neil for directing the members of the Sunday School in their special part of the service and to Brenda Woodbum who filled in as Mary when Brenda O'Neil developed chicken pox. Each child was presented with a bag of candy at.the close of the ser- vice. Christmas services at St. James will be Christmas eve - Christmas Eucharist and message at 7:30 p.m. - December 27 - morn- ing prayer at 9:30,p.m. St. James Church euchre party was cancelled last week because of the bad weather. They plan to have the next party on December 29 at 8 p.m. Gerald Millson is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital where he under-" went emergency surgery early Fri- day morning. • Rumor has it that the Clandeboye store may re -open. Guests at Saintsbury By MRS: HEBER DAVIS Elmer and Bert and Verna Green- lee, Exeter and -Mrs. Alma Watson, Ilderton were dinner guests on Fri- day with their nephew Earl and Marguerite Greenlee. . Mrs. Nadine Bedell and Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Davis attended the ordi- nation service at the church of the Redeemer, London Wednesday evening for Rev. Beverly Wheeler and also the reception which fol- lowed. Congratulations Beverly. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Davis and Cameron attended the funeral in London of Miss Marjorie Isaac.. Marjorie grew up in this communi- ty and attended school and church. Her parents were the late Garnet and Myrtle Simpson -Isaac. The sympa- thy of this community is extended to Cote Wennerstrom and her cous- ins. Mrs. Sheryl Carroll and Margaret Carroll and Voyle Jordan and Mary Davis served the Lions club mem- bers of Huron Park their Christmas dinner Thursday evening in the Community Centre, Centralia. Children's' play at Granton Church By MRS. E. SUMMERS Granton At. St. Thomas Anglican Church, the Rev. Beverly Wheeler was in charge of the Holy Eucharist service assisted by Kaylcen Roloson as server. John Herbert was crucifer. Marlene French supplied the music and an all men choir was enjoyed. The lessons were read by Gary Hoar. In the children's focus the four candles were lit. The fourth candle is for joy. Rev.Wheeler preached her sermon from the gospel of Luke. chapter one on the "birth of Jesus announced". Mary was the most ex- ceptional woman ever created. Jesus said "I am with you always, even unto the end of the world". • After the service all returned to the church where the Sunday School children presented an interesting pro- gram in the form of a play, followed by a delicious hot lunch. He was caught by some creepy people and he was put in jail, but in two days he was free. He decided to go home to deliver the presents. Santa forgot that the chil- dren were at home crying. So he left and hurried home and the elves had all of the toys ready. They were beautiful! He packed his bag and got dressed in his suit. Off he went call- ing Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and Rudolph. When he got to my house he saw cookies and milk. He felt tired and hungry. So he ate the cook- ies and milk. Then he had little nap. Santa's Vacation By Kristopher Leppington Hensall P. S., Grade 3 One December Santa was on vaca- tion to Florida and on the way back he got attacked by Knids. The Knids captured him. The elves and reindeer freed him after the Knids left. Vaca- tion is over. Oh, no I just about forgot about Christmas. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night. On Dasher, Dancer, Pranc- er, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Don- ner, Blitzen and Rudolph. Ho,ho, ho! Merry Christmas. Santa's Vacation By Priscilla Hensall P. S., Grade 3 Santa went for a vacation to Florida on November 25, 1987. I was very worried, but he came back December 30, 1987. Mrs. Horner delivered our presents and she gave me a whole bunch of toys, like Alf and a tent. It came with a gym bag and a sleeping bag. I got lots more and I saw Mrs. Horner in Santa's new sled. She was funny. She gave Daniel and I a jewellery box with jewel- lery in it.It was nice. Mrs. Horner took Santa's place. Santa's Vacation By Peter -Owen Bisback Hensall P. S., Grade 3 In December Santa went to Ha- waii. He loved it so much that he didn't want to come back. He packed his Hawaiian underwear and went surfing. He was getting sick of eating coconuts. I ani go- ing home to Santa's village and deliver those presents to the chil- dren who are sad because I never delivered the presents. "Well elves, make G.I. Joe, Chuck Nor- ris, W.W.F. Super Stars, He- man, Thundercat, Mask, Centuri- ons, Gobots, Lazer tag, Compu- tron, and Robotix. Ho,Ho,Ho, Merry Christmas!" shouted Santa excitedly.
