The Hedgehogs Christmas
By Erin Kraftcheck
Grade 7
Precious Blood School
It was three days before Christmas
and the Hedgehogs didn't have a
Christmas tree. Little Sally, the
youngest .child, was very disap-
pointed. She went and asked,
"Father, when are we getting our
tree?"
"Well if you would like we could
go right now." So Sally, her father,
and her older brother Kyle went out
to look for a tree. "Be back before
dark, and keep your hat on Kyle."
mother called after them.
As they were walking through the
forest they started to sing Chnstmas'
carols. Suddenly Sally saw the per-
fect tree. "Look father, that's the
perfect Christmas tree!
"Look's like a dead one to me,"
Kyle said to himself, but a little too
loudly.
"Well I think it's a very nice
tree," father answered and he started
to cut it down.
After a while, father was finally
finished, so they started their walk
home. As they approached the
house, Sally ran ahead to tell moth-
er. "Mother, it's the best tree ever,
and I picked it out myself."
"Well, let's get the decorations
out, we want to finish it before bed
time," mother called as she went
down the hall.
When the tree was all ready to
decorate, Kyle said that he wanted to
put the star on the tree first, but
mother said no, it would go on last.
At the end of all the decorating,
Kyle tried to jump up to put the
star on, but fell forward and knocked
the tree over. It wasn't a very strong
tree and under Kyle's weight it
cracked in half.
"Oh, my tree, it's gone!" wailed
Sally and she ran up to her room.
"I'm very sorry, I'll go out and get
another tree myself tomorrow,"
Kyle said sadly.
But the next day there was a terri-
ble storm which continued onto the
next day. "Aren't we going to get
another tree?" asked Sally.
"Not with a storm like this." an-
swered father.
The next night would be Christ-
mas, and it wouldn't be very special
without a tree Sally thought.
It was still storming when Sally
woke up the next morning. Now
she was walking around the house
being miserable. Kyle started to feel
guilty. That was when he decided to
go out in the storm to get a tree.
He got all bundled un warmly and

quietly slipped out of the house, but
as soon as he took one step outside,
he was down on the ground. The
wind was very, strong and snow was
blowing everywhere. He could hard-
ly see his hand in front of his face.
He was getting very cold.
(^Meanwhile back at the house,
mother and father discovered Kyle
was missing and were getting wor-
ried. Mother was crying and father
was pacing the floor.
Kyle however had finally got to
the forest and was a bit sheltered.
He could see better now. After
stumbling and falling, he finally
came to a nice looking tree. He be-
gan to chop. Then he heard a sound.
It was like someone shouting. It
got clearer and closer. He chopped
faster. Then he recognized the voice.
It was father. They must have got-
ten really worried. He called to his
father, "Here father, over here." He
heard the footsteps getting louder
and he ran to his father. By now he
was really cold and numb, so his fa-
ther carried him home.
When they reached the house they
could.see a little better. Mother was.
watching through the window. Sal-
ly opened the -door for them and
looked very happy. "I'm so glad
you're safe Kyle." she said to him.
"But aren't you disappointed about
the tree?" he asked.
"No, I'm just happy that you're
safe. Mother and I were worried that
we'd never see you again. I think I'll
have a MerryChristmas after all'nd
they all went into the kitchen for
hot chocolate.
Phoney Santa
by Hang Pham
McCurdy School
It was Christmas Eve and every-
body was asleep except for a little
girl. Her name was Samantha. She
was waiting for St. Nick. St. Nick
was- getting ready too but this St.
Nick was phoney. The real St. Nick
lost a reindeer. The phoney Si Nick
was on his way. Then he came to
Samantha's house. Samantha was
not asleep. Not at all. She came to
hug St. Nick. Real St. Nick was on
his way. He came to Samantha's
house. There was going to be trou-
ble. Then St. Nick came down the
chimney. Samantha asked herself
which St. Nick was real. Both St.
Nick's were fighting. Then Saman-
tha shouted "Stop"! Both St. Nick's'
stopped. She told them I will pull
your beards. The one that is pulled
off first will leave. Then it was
settled. Then phoney St. Nick left
and the real one stayed.
