A story from Haiti
By Joel Siebert
Zurich P.S.,
This story takes place in Jacme
Haiti.
Hosea a ten year old Haitian lives
with his family. Their house is
made out of bamboo and grass that
is dried, thcir mother can not afford a
modem home.
A scream of terror and weeping
came from Hosea's hut. As he ran in
he found his mother weeping, as he
walked closer he saw his little broth-
er's naked body in his mother's
arms. "Is he dead Ma -ma?" said Ho-
sea in•a terrified voice. "Yes Too -
Too is dead. " said his mother be-
tween sobs.
The next day Hosea and his ten
brothers and nine sisters set out for
the fruit tree grove which contained
bananas, coconuts, oranges, avoca-
dos, mangos and breadfruit. As they
ran through the jungle suddenly his
oldest brother stopped. "Danger tree
frog see" said Antonio who was fif-
teen. "Oh! how sickening can you
get" said Leiontyne. All of a sudden
the frog leaped toward them. "Run"
yelled Hosea frantically.
They reached the fruit tree grove
gasping for air. After they caught
their breath they collected all the
fruit they could carry and got home
just before dusk.
Hosea I got a letter for you to-
day", said his mother.
"Ma -ma what is a compassion par-
ent" said Hosea to his mother. "A
compassion parent is a person who
sends you money, letters and loves
you" said his mother. "Wow! far
out" said Antonio.
Three months later Josea saved up
enough money to buy a huge
Christmas gift for the whole family.

Jim didn't stop writing, because
he had a unbreakable love to Ho-
sea and his family, and he didn't
stop giving the family money.
He even bought the family a
tombstone and engraved on it was
"Hosea Yan born} in 1977, Died
1987" Hosea mother thanked Ji-
mand left for Canada.
On Christmas morn in the big city
you could have seen Hosea's family
in a big group hug. For Christmas
Hosea bought a modern home.
It was miracle that so little wel!
maybe it didn't seem like that little
does so much. Then Hosea wrote his
compassion parent for the last time:
Dear, Jim. Thank you for your love
and letters and money. For Christ-
mas I bought the family a new
house. Please write soon.
Love Hosea
A few months later Hosea died
from malaria, and his mother wrote
Jim Banks one letter that said:
Dear Mr. Banks
Hosea died of malaria on February
27, 1987. You don't have to send
money anymore. Thank you.
Mrs. Yan
As soon as Jim got the letter he
Miracle
by Cathy Roestenberg
St. Pat's - Grade 6
Once upon a time there was a boy
who did not believe in Christmas or
Santa Claus. He was an unhappy
boy and he did not have a family or
friends.
At times he was an angry boy. He
did not have anybody to care for'him
or to love him.
One day he met a nice kind man.
The gentle man took care for the
little boy and gave him lots of
love. •
In time the boy learned about
love. And he learned to give and to
help and to share.
Now he became a happy friendly
boy and he had lots of friends to
play with now. And now he be-
lieved in Christmas and Santa
Claus.

One day as I was walking
On a bright and sunny day•
I saw a great big monster,
Her name was Nelly Mae.
She had two great big eyes,
And some orange -spiked hair.
Her nose was as big as Ncw York
City,
And she wore pink underwear.

Christmas Day
by Rianne Laye
Exeter P.S. Grade 4
Christmas is celebrated on the
25th of December. We think it
might be all presents, but it is for
giving and sharing. Jesus was born
on Christmas Day. I love Christ-
mas because it reminds me of Je-
sus.

E is for everlasting life
S is for our Saviour
