Petite's on tourney circuit This weekend Exeter Petite Rin- gette Team hit the road again. This time the girls played in the Mitchell age groups with four teams in each group. Exeter started their round robin play against Rosedale (Hamilton) at noon Saturday. • Rosedale started the game off with three unanswered goals, but with 4:43 to play in the first, Carrie Simpson bolted for the net with a pass from Danielle Miners and scored. Exeter held close until 8:32 in the second when Rosedale came to life and blasted in cight more to win the game 11-1. Mid -way through the second, Ex- eter's Captain Carrie Simpson was sidelined with a shoulder injury for the remainder of the toumcy. The second game for Exeter was against Dorchester, Saturday after- noon. Exeter started out keenly and held the large Dorchester girls to only three in the first, but Dorches- ter took control in the second and scored eight more goals. The Exeter girls were determined to get a point on the board, and with only 32 seconds left in the game Sonya Lawrence scored with some help from Cara Gardner. Exeter's goaltcnder Jana Webster played a strong game despite the score, stopping 39 shots on goal. Game three was against Mitchell early Sunday morning. Again the girls met some tough competition. Mitchell chalked up. three goals be- fore Exeter's Chris Morgan connect- ed on a pass from Cara Gardner. Mitchell scored four more in the first. Exeter came alive and played a close second period, holding Mitch- ell to only two goals. The final score was 9-1. With three losses, Exeter moved into the Bronze tinal against Rose- dale. Exeter surprised Rosedale by dominating the play and outscoring them 4-2 in the first period. Cara Gardner scored twice in the first with Sonya Lawrence and Chris Morgan each adding singles. Assisting on the goals were Chris Morgan, Cara Gardner, Katie Arm- strong, Suzanne Steciuk. Sonya Lawrence summed up the scoring for Exeter early in the sec- ond. Later the girls lost their mo- mentum when they were plagued with four consecutive penalties. Rosedale scored eight in the sec- ond to take the bronze medal, but Exeter was named the Most Sports- manlike team of the tournament, for the`- ;;ood spirit despite their loss- es. Exeter will be at home Saturday to play host to Goderich at 5:30 in Hensall. Molting Hawks win two, Exeter Molting Hawks were in Nichols Arena in London Friday night to take on South-west Old Tractors. Exeter came out ahead 6-4 thanks to Peter McFalls' three goal effort. Ernie Ahrens fircd two goals while Bob McDonald chipped in with one goal and two assists. Walt Tiedeman added three assists. Sunday, a shorthanded Exeter squad travelled to Goderich and came away with a hard fought 3-3 tie, thanks.to great goaltending by Glen Stire. Scoring for Exeter were Walt Ticdcman with two and Jim Em- pringham one goal. Jim Pfaff and Bob Jones had two assists each. tie C.F.B.
