Bedard line gives Harrisththe blues
Kris Bedard, Dale Gibbon and
Brian Mercer left Harriston Blues in
tatters Saturday night. The line ac-
counted for a total of nine goals and
12 assists in Mohawks 13-4 romp
over Blues.
Bedard scored four goals and man-
aged four assists over the course of
the evening while Gibbon chalked
up three goals and four assists.
Mercer added two goals and four
assists.
The Saturday night game also
gave Sid Kemp a chance to show
his metal. Kemp, who was recently
acquired by Mohawks to replace an
injured Randy Hildebrant, came in
to replace Rick Pikul in the third.
Taking a 4-1 lead in the first and
increasing it with five more in the
second, Mohawks had little difficul-
ty in scnding the Blues home with a
loss. •
Mercer opened the scoring from -
Mark Soehner and Bedard at 3:54 of
the first.
Harriston matched that with a
goal at 7:26 by Mark Leslie, bu
Exeter was quick to regain the lead
when Bedard pumped in a shot from
Mercer and Gibbon.
Bedard added two more goals be-
fore the end of the period with as-
sists going to Randy Bailey, Jeff
Warren, Mercer and Gibbon.
Warren and Bedard scored at 3:35
and 6:06 with help from Bill Glo-
ver, Dale Timmermans, Jeff Ship-
ley and Barry Baynhany.
Harriston retaliated/feebly with a
power play goal at 11':47 but it was
countered with quick goals by Gib-
bon, Baynham and Glover between
12:58 and 13:57.
Jeff Bender scored for Harriston in
the last seconds of the middle peri-
od. Bender's goal was the only Har-
riston marker scored while Mo-
hawks were at full strength.
In the third, Bailey scored at 3:49
while Blues were short-handed.
Gibbon: Mercer and Bedard fol-
lowed with their final goals of the
night.
Close one in Palmerston
Kemp started in goal for Mo-
hawks whcn they travelled to Pal-
merston for an afternoon game Sun-
day.After spotting Palmerston a 2-
0 lead in the first, Kemp settled
down, secured his end of things and
gave Mohawks the platform they
needed to pcck away at the lead.
Exeter won the game 4-2.
Palmerston goals by Peter Job
and Dave Craig left Exeter trailing
2-0 after nine minutes of play but
Ron Elliott opened the Mohawk
scoring with 2:35 remaining in the
first with an unassisted goal.
At 2:05 of the second, a well
placed shot by Mercer from Bedard
and Gibbon tied the game at 2-2.
In the third period, Mohawks were
able to take advantage of two power
play opportunities.
Bailey scored at 11:26 to give Ex-
eter the lead for the first time that
night after he connected with Paul
Barton and John Rowland.
With 1:23 left to play, Kraul
scored from Baynham while Pal-
merston was Short-handed, cement-
ing the win.
Hawks unbeaten streak snapped at 13
Exeter Hawks ended a 13 game
unbeaten streak Wednesday night
when they allowed Brussels to
storm over them and win 9-4.
Head coach Dave Bogart refused to
make excuses for the team, noting
that it was just a bad game.
"We didn't have a very good game
as a team," Bogart dxplained. "They
(Brussels) just came out and out -hit
us and out -scored us. They always
give us a good game. We've met
four times and we've each won
two."
The loss was tempered with victo-
•
ries over Mitchell and Thamesford,
indicating the team's resilience.
"There was no let -down, " Bogart
p
or
S
said. "I was surprised. I thought
there might be a let -down. You've
got to give the guys crcdit. They
bounced right back." •
Hawks head coach has a few other
facts to smile about. If the Exeter
team wins two of the three games
scheduled this week, they will have
already exceeded last year's total
point level •
At the end of the season, Hawks
had 44 points. They stand in first
place in the league with 42 points
at present.
Hawks also have in their line-up
some of the best players in the
league. Clark Singer and Scott Lo -
vie arc currently standing second and
third respectively in the league scor-
ing race while Dave Rook is the
number one goalie in the Western
Junior D Teague with an average of
2.54.
Brussels didn't waste any time
Wednesday night. They scored three
goals before the ten minute mark of
the first and then added one with six
minutes to go.
Exeter's only reply came at 11:37
when Terry Casey scored from Ge-
off Slater.
Brussels added four more goals be -

Smith leads Irish with 4 goal night
The combination of David Smith,
Joe Febrey and Jamie Greig was
hard to stop Wednesday night when
Lucan Irish took on Thedford and
defeated them 6-1.
Smith scored four of the six Lu -
can goals while Fcbrey scored once
and drew four assists. Grcig assisted
Smith twice.
After an even first period in which
neither team was able to score, Lu -
can took control of the game, scor-
ing four times in the second and
twice in the third.
Thcdford played the game with a
bench -strength of nine players and
tt+'o goalies, a factor which began to
tell as the game wore on.
Ian Craig broke the stalemate at
9:50 of the second when he scored
from Jeff Hirtzell and Fcbrcy. -

Clinton folds
The Western Junior D hockey
league lost one of its members on
the weekend. Clinton Mustangs of-
ficially folded Friday after strug-
gling through the first half of the
season with only three wins to their
credit.
Brian Marriage, manager of the
club, blamed poor player response
for the collapse of the team.
"Well, (the team folded because of
a) lack of dedicated players, you
might say. They just wanted to do
other things. High school hockey
hasn't helped," Marriage said, ex-
plaining that the bulk of Midget
players on' which the learn relics
have decided to play for the local
high school team.
"Normally we rely on our Midget
players," he said. "When you get 12
of 15 Midget players playing high
school hockey, you've got a prob-
lem."

Mohawks host
Real McCoys
Dundas "Real McCoys" are
coming to town Sunday (Dec.
20), hosted by Exeter Mo-
hawks.
The Allan Cup -bound Senior
AAA team will be facing off
against Mohawks at 7 p.m.
Dundas are on an exhibition
game schedule to prime them-
selves for the Eastern Canadian
playdowns in Charlottetown
PEI.
Friday night Real McCoys
trounced OCAA champions
Humber College 10-3. That
wiry indicates that Exeter Mo-
hawks are going to have their
first real challenge of the sea-
son Sunday.
Formerly called Brantford
Mott's Clamatos, Dundas won
the Allan Cup last season with
a power house squad which in-
cluded a number of former
NHL players such as Don Ed-
wards and Rocky Saginuik of
Toronto Maple Leafs. The core
of that team is back this year.
Though Edwards will not be
at the game, fonncr Leaf goalie
Bruce Dowhey will be there,
along with former London
Knights Chris Puccy, Cord
Brooks and John Held.
Former New Jersey Devil
Mike Mohcr will also be with
the team when they skate onto
the ice at the South Iluron Rec
Centre.
M an added bonus, all
EMHA players, coaches and
managers will be admitted free
'of charge.,
period, Lucan managed to force in
another goal when Smith put the
puck in the net from Fcbrey. Febrey
did the same from Todd Hayter at
19:12.
A well aimed shot from Smith at
19:26 made it 4-0. Greig and Fcbrcy
assisted on the play.
Smith marked his third and fourth
goal in the third at 13:53 and 16:50
with the help of Fcbrcy; Tim Hay-
ter and Greig.
Thedford's lone goal was contrib-
uted by Scott Lave at 17:17.
Irish out -shot their opponents 40-
14.
Saturday night's affair against
Mount Brydgcs was considerably
.closer but the out -come was not in
favour of the Irish who were edged
out 6-4 by their opponents. That
loss ruined the potential for a three
game winning streak.
Fcbrcy again had a banner night,
scoring three goals.
Mount Brydgcs took a 3-1 lead in
the first, largely on the strength of
power plays. It was a deficit that
Lucan couldn't recover from.
Mount Brydgcs stepped into the
driver's seat after three minutes of
play when Jeff Knapp scored his
first of three goals. Knapp added to
their lead at 4:56 with a second goal
while Lucan was short-handed.
Febrey returned the tire with 7:43
remaining in the first after he was
set up by Greig and Brian Shuyler
during a power play, but Mount
Brydgcs was prompt to answer with
another power play goal at 14:13.
Lucan again fell behind by three
goals when Brad Klinker beat goalie
Doug Haskett. Jeff Hirtzell matched
that goal however, with one of his
own with 4:29 left to play in the
second.
Two more Mount Brydges goals
nullified Fcbrcy's last two points
which came at 3:41 and 18:22. Brad
Muir and Kevin Leitch drew assists
on Fcbrcy's second goal. He put the
puck in the net for the third time
that night, unassisted.
Lucan Irish will host Belmont to-
night (Dec. 16) and Lambeth De-
cember 23. Both games begin at
8:15 p.m.
