Local resident attends
meaningful ceremony
Mrs. Maude Connon, accompanied
by Douglas, Nils, and Leon French
of Ingersoll, attended the Remem-
brance Day Service held at the Cen-
otaph at Markham n November 7.
Maude's mother, Mrs. Maude Sarah
Mingay, is the last surviving Silver
Cross Mother for that district and it
was her privilege and honour to lay
the wreath at the cenotaph in mem-
ory of the young soldiers, airmen,
and sailors from the Markham and
Unionville district who gave up
their lives for their country in
World War II. Mr. Paul Mingay
also placed a beautiful wreath of
gold chrysanthemums at the ceno-
taph in memory of his brother, Cor-
poral Donald James Mingay RCA
who was killed in Italy in 1944
while serving his country. Then all
the veterans and Legion members
pinned. their poppies on the
wreaths.
Mrs. Eleanor Kamester of London,
England, was also present at the cer-
emony. Eleanor is the daughter of
the late Donald Mingo), of Mark-
ham and Grace Hammersley of Lon-
don and the niece of Paul Mingay of
Markham and Maude Connon of
Exeter. Recently Eleanor visited in
Exeter for several days with the
Connon fan)ily, as well as friends
and relatives in the Windsor and
Sarnia arca before flying back to
England.
Maude's father and Eleanor's grand-
father, the late Henry George Min -
gay, was a Flying Officer during the
Second World War and held several
positions as Educational and Reha-
bilitation Officer across Eastern
Canada with the Royal Canadian
Air Force during that time.

REBOUND
Were you aware of the fact that
the only way agencies have access
to any young offender for rehabilita-
tion purposes is through the courts?
- a frightening, costly, time-
consuming and sometimes unneces-
sary avenue.
As an alternative, the City of Sar-
nia has reported excellent sources
with their REBOUND Programme,
and they are now reaching out into
other communities to share their
is and assist in establishing sim-
ilar groups.
The REBOUND Programme
works with young offenders who
have a high potential for reform and
who prepared to co-operate in the 12
week programme to avoid criminal
charges. The programme works
alternative
with volunteer "coaches" from the
community under the auspices of
the local police department.
The w^ckly sessions feature a pro-
fessional from various sectors of the
community, speaking to the group
and using familiar scenarios to help
the young offenders identify specific
problems they may be having and
to help them gain a new perspective
on their individual situations.
Chief Larry Hardy believes the
programme could work with tre-
mendous benefit in Exeter and the
surrounding areas and has ap-
proached the'B.I.A. for its support.
Start-up costs for such a programme
would in the area of $3,000 and the
invitation to participate with, either
volunteers, financial assistance, or

Very often B.I.A. members
arc most directly affected by those
young offenders who might become
part of such a programme, and it is
a course of action that warrants
some investigation. Hardy has
promised to provide members with
reading material on this and similar
programmes in other centres, and
will keep us advised of his progress
in establishing a locally -based chap-
