Cougar Column celebrates the gaming of winter
Kindergarten
Our theme this month has been
getting ready for winter. We dis-
cussed how animals adapt to the on -
corning season. We brought our fa-
vorite bears to school. Lindsay
Habcrcr had the biggest bear and
Mrs. Brooks had the smallest. Ben-
jamin Rader had one with a heart-
beat.
The Kindergarten class wishes to
thank these people: Jason Schilbe
and Jared Siebert for introducing us
to the computer, Mr. Merrier for
showing us the fire hall and all the
moms who helped make skating so
successful.

In grade one 'we have had three
new students; Laura Shepard, De-
nise Kinahan and April Smale.
They are really nice.
Since the beginning of the year,
Mrs. Deichert has been teaching the
grade ones how to read. Our fust
big book was "Come On". Now we
can read a lot of stories by our-
selves. We didn't know reading
could be so much fun.
In grade two we have been learn-
ing about the four food groups.
Now we know how to make and eat
a healthy breakfast that gives you
energy at work and play.
Grades three and four
We had a fun time making jack -o -
lanterns. Afterwards we counted the
seeds in math class. We then used
our jack -o -lantern as decoration for
the hallowc'en assembly.
Sabrina Schilbe, Jackie Koehler
and Jill Ramer entertained the
school with their musical perfor-
mances. The junior choir sang "The
Invisible Spook and The Ghost Pa-
rade".
Grades five and six
It's exciting in room seven this
month. Mr. Weido is going to send
the autobiographies that we wrote
to our surprise penpals in Jamaica.
Our room's gerbils, more com-
monly known as escape artists, es-
ing experience.
We would like to welcome Bon-
nie'Smale to room seven.
Grades seven and eight
On Friday, November 6, grades
five to eight went skating at the lo-
cal Zurich arena. At 1 p.m., we
skated for one hour and fifteen min-
utes. Then grades seven and eight
stayed and tied the grades one to
four skates. We go every Friday in
November,
A new student has joined grade
eight. His name is Rob Smale and
we would like to welcome him to
Ztricjl Public.,.
Last month in art, Mrs. Cliff and
Miss Look were teaching us how to
paint symmetrical pictures. Before
they came we had just finished do-
ing Hallowe'en pictures and collag-
es. The collages were about our-
selves. We cut pictures out of
cataloges and magazines dealing
with ourselves. Now we arc drawing
pictures about junk.
This year in Communications
grade seven has been writing the
Cougar Column that goes in the pa-
pers. We hope you enjoy knowing
what we are doing at school. The
rest of the class write for the Z.P.S.
Press, our school newspaper. We
have interviews, stories, sports, sto-
ries and much more. Right now we
are getting "Your News" papers.
They have a lot of recent stories and
lots of puzzles and games to do.
From the stories, we make spelling
lists.
caped twice this month. Maybe they
don't like the idea of staying in the
same room as the new red -legged
Mexican tarantula and the skink (a
type of lizard).
We are reading the "Three I's" ser-
ies. This collection of books con-
sists of novels such as "Little
House on the Prairie", "Scatterbrain
Booky", "Black Beauty" and more.
Grades five and six have just com-
pletedprojects about a place in On-
tario for Social Studies. We present-
ed them in front of the class.
In Science, we havc.bccn experi-
menting will parallel and series cir-
