That's what's happen- ing at JAD MC Curdy School these days. Co-ed classes wore introduced into some of the public schools in Hu- ron -County a number of years ago. The project is part of the family life studies class at JAD McCurdy School ly studies classes in Seaforth and Godcrich in 1984. The program was introduced in Wingham in 1986, and for grade seven and eight students from Exeter, Hensall, Zurich,. Us - borne, Stephen and McCurdy at JAD McCurdy in 1987. Eileen Wise, who teaches the family studies course, reports the boys cnjoy it as much as the girls. The grade sevens are now working on pencil cases, and the grade eights arc making gym shorts. . Wise said the course is designed to imitate family lifestyle, and "there is no such thing as a one -sex family; it's a team effort". Industrial arts teacher Harry Brooks is equally enthusiastic. Whcn the students come into his class, they arc assigned five initial projccts to familiarize each with the router and the lathe. They turn out a routed sign, and turn a bowl on the lather. The students have freedom within the guidelines to choose their pro- jects' design and shape. The students have also been intro- duced to acrylic plastic, and have made articles such as key chain tags and pencil holders. "I have had nothing but positive feedback from both students and par- ents", Brooks reported.
