MOHAWK SAVE -- Exeter Mohawk goalie Rick Pikul makes a sliding
save during Sunday night's game against Elora Rocks. At the left is Brian
Mercer (9). Circling the net is John Kernick (12). Mohawks won the game
7-3, extending their unbeaten streak to 10 games in the Central Senior B
league.
Mohawks beginning to look unbeatable
As the Christmas milestone in
the Central Senior B league draws
closer, it's beginning to look as if
Exeter Mohawks have no equal in
the arca.
Mohawks are now undefeated in
11 regular season games after hand-
ing Elora Rocks a 7-3 loss Sunday
night and downing Tavistock 6-2
The pattern remained the same:
Elora stayed close throughout the
first and second period and headed
into the third trailing 4-3 but the lo-
cal steamroller kicked into gear.
Exctcr head coach Jim Guenther
compared Sunday's match to Mo-
hawks recent home -and -home series
with Hillsburg in which their oppo-
nents were badly battered.
"We knew we beat them badly (in
their last match)," Guenther said
"We likely expected a little better
game (Sunday night)." - •
Elora scored two quick goals late
in the second period and it looked as
if Mohawks might have a hockey
game on their hands, but the com-
petition was short lived. Guenther
blamed that lapse on a combination
of things.
"I'm running with four lines and
five defencemen at this time. What
counts is that our guys stay out of
the penalty box," Guenther ex-
plained.
"That (second period lapse) was
just the culmination of penalties in
the second period and the guys wer-
en't getting out on the ice enough."
Mohawks took a two goal lead in
the first period. Bill Glover put the

Lucafl Irish stumble
Lucan Irish ran into difficulty last
week in Western Junior D league
play, managing a 5-5 tie with Tha-
mesford Wednesday and then drop-
ping a 7-4 decision to Belmont
Sunday.
Thamesford took the lead at 8:21
when Kevin Therkildsen beat Lucan
goalie Doug Haskett, but Lucan
didn't wait long to retaliate. At
12:05, Scott Denomy scored on a
power play from Joe Febrey, tying
the game.
Febrey found the mark at 17:00
from Jamie Greig to give Lucan the
lead and then just 29 seconds later,
Tim Hayter pumped in a shot from
Ian Craig and Darren Neil, provid-
ing some insurance.
Irish carried a 3-1 lead into the
second period.
It looked as though they might
continue to march over Thamesford
when Craig scored at 7:12 from
Todd Hayter, but the feeling didn't
last long. Thamesford got a goal
from Scott Brownlee at 7:22. Ther -
kildsen followed with his second of
the night at 11:06 and then Paul
Norris and Doug Titus added power
play goals at 16:59 and 19:15 to
give Thamesford the lead.
Trailing by one goal in the third,
Irish tightened up defensively. A
goal Febrey, his second of the
night, gave Lucan the tie.
Belmont 7 - Irish 4
After pulling out to a 3-2 lead in
the first, Lucan got swamped by in-
coming pucks in the second and
third periods Sunday.
Just three minutes into the game
Pat Kennedy put the puck in the net
unassisted, giving Lucan a leg up.
Glen Marshall made it 2-0 near
the half way mark of the period
when Todd Hayter and Dave Murray
set him up in front of the net.
At 9:33, Belmont stirred and Ja-
mie Griffin scored to narrow the
gap.
Less than two minutes later, a
goal by Paul Jordan had closed that

Generals on the march
After Exeter Generals pulled out a
5-3 win over Parkhill in Shamrock
league action November 18, landing
their fourth consecutive win, they
continued to march, beating Mount
Brydges 4-1 and then trouncing
Goderich 12-1.
Generals now have six straight
wins under their collective belt
which gives them a record of eight
wins, three losses and no ties.
With five players missing from
the line-up due to suspensions No-
vember 18, Generals were forced to
play the game with only 11
players.
Generals took a 2-1 lead in the
first period and then maintained
their one goal advantage through the
second, heading into the third period
up 3-2.
Jeff Kints picked up a hat trick in
the effort.
Kints opened the scoring at 2:14
in the first after he connected with
Steve Lingard and Deric McCann.
Rob McKnight added a second
point when he scored on a pass
from Doug Clark at 7:10.
Parkhill tied the game early in the
second.
Kints restored the one goal lead
for Exeter in the second period. Jeff
Hannah and Lingard picked up as-
sists on the play.
In the third period, Kints again
opened the scoring at 6:47 when he
pumped in a shot from Doug Clark.
Lingard finished the game with a
goal from Jeff Chipchase at 11:18.
Doug Kells was in goal for Gen-
erals.
After a scoreless first period Wed-
nesday night, Exeter took a one
goal lead ever Mount Brydges in the
second and increased it by three in
the third.
In a match described as one of the
best played games of the year, Lin-
gard and Jim Dickens dominated the
forward play of their team. Rob
Taylor played a strong defensive
game.
Mount Brydges jumped out to a
surprising start in the second, scor-
ing after just 43 seconds of play,
but Exeter rebounded quickly with
goals by Shawn Guillet and Lin-
gard. Assists on the second period
goals went to Henri DeBruyn,
Frank Wulterkens and Larry Lewis.
Jim Dickens and Jeff Kints added
goals in the third to secure a victo-
ry. Lingard picked up two assists
while Dickens managed one.
Fred Gregus was in net for the
win.
Generals continued their march
Friday night when they travelled to
Goderich and humiliated their Mid-
get counter -parts 12-1.
The line made up of Dickens,
Lingard and Kints combined for 13'
points over the course of the night.
Exeter goalie Doug Kells put on.
an excellent show in net, holding
Goderich to just one goal while Jeff
Chipchase presented a sturdy force
at the blue -line.
Dickens, Wulterkens, Doug
Clark, Kints and Guillet found the
mark in the first period.
Gerald Papple, Deric McCann,
Lingard, DeBruyn and Lingard again
became a part of the goal scoring
roster in the second.
Wulterkens was the only General
to put the puck in the net in the
third period. Guillet and. DeBruyn
assisted on the play.
