Baby Band Party at church
By MRS. WILLIAM ROHDE
Thornes Road
Mrs. Judith Parker welcomed 35
adults and children to the Baby Band
Party on Saturday afternoon. Mrs.
Melonie Miller told the children a
story "Tony Chestnut With Ac-
tions". Away in the Manger was
sung.
Mrs. Parker conducted the gradua-
tion exercises. Mrs. Kathy Bray and
daughter Vanessa and Mrs. Mclonic
Miller and daughter Laura were
called forward and When Mothers
of Salem" was sung. Vanessa and
Laura were presented with gifts as
graduates, and Mrs. loan Morgan
welcomed the girls to the Messen-
gers group.
Mrs. Miller told the children a
story "The Little Fir Tree". Rick
Etherington then came in with a
real Christmas tree and everyone
went upstairs to decorate it. All re -
tiled to the basement for lunch
which brought an enjoyable after-
noon to a close.
Church service
The Rev. K. Teddy Smits was in
charge of the first Sunday in Advent
church service on Sunday morning.
He told the children a story and had
Rebecca, Laura and Maggie place
three figurines in the stable and Der-
ek Etherington lit a candle in the ad-
vent wreath.
Combined with the singing of the
advent carols and children placing
the first figures in the stable, the
Rev. K. Teddy Smits spoke about
the qualities of the Son of God who
was to be born. He chose as his text
Isaiah 11:36. "He shall not judge by
what His cycs sec or decide by what
-His ears hear".
We arc people who arc greatly in-
fluenced by appearance. We judge
someone by his or her clothes, and
quickly make a mental calculation
'tbout the person's financial health.
Rich and poor will be equals he -
fore Christ, as He judges the heart,
not the bank accounts.
