Plan Baby Band party at Thames Road
By MRS. WILLIAM ROHDE
A fair crowd attended the regular
church service on Sunday morning
with Rev. K. Teddy Smits in
charge.
The choir sang the Norwegian
Carol accompanied by organist
Miss Agnes Bray. Rev. Smits told
the children an interesting story.
The text for the sermon was 2
Corinthians 8:5 But first they gave
themselves to the Lord and to us by
the will of God.
Few people are aware that at All
Saints Anglican Church in Toronto
many men, younger and older, come
at night to sleep there on the floors.
They have no home and very little
money.
In the morning they can buy
some food at the canteen. And off
they go into another day of nothing-
ness.
Some people know about •the
homeless, but shrug their shoulders.
What can I do about it?
In Jerusalem there were the poor,
but some people did little about
them. One such callous person was
Dives. A rich man, he gave big din-
ners frequently for the upper ten of
T,.nicalr•m
The beggars would come to the
courtyard, smell the food, and the
amused guests would throw some
crumbs. Lazarus was one of the
beggars. He was covered with sores,
but none of the diners could be
bothered to pay attention, least of
all Dives.
One day Dives died, and awakened
in hell. He could sec Lazarus in
heaven. Only then did Dives think
of his neglect.
We too are often guilty of ne-
glect.
Paul tells of a group of people
who gave generously to others, al-
though poor themselves.
We read this about the Macedoni-
ans, It is not difficult to give out of
plenty, but to give something that
one would have cared for oneself is
an act of sacrifice.
There are the people who treat
others as Dives did. Then there are
those who give and feel better for
it.
