TALK ABOUT RECREATION- Exeter's recreation director Lynne Farquhar talks to area grade seven and
eight students at a recent Careers Day at J.A.D. McCurdy school at Huron Park.
WI meets
operators Insurance, and Leroy Ed-
wards, hospital worker, mechanic
and firefighter.
The five-day program was spear-
headed by McCurdy vice-principal
Ila Mathers, with assistance from
industrial arts teacher Harry Brooks,
family studies teacher Eileen Wise,
and guidance teacher Dorothy
Coates. The program received sup-
port from the provincial teachers
federation, and from the Huron
Womeh Teachers Association, *61
which provided each participant - This is just one of many gift ideas
students and speakers - with a handy
plastic folder.
Mrs. Mathers said this is the first
time such a program has been pro-
vided on such a large scale at the
school. She hopes one positive ef-
fect will be to encourage the female
students to maintain their science
and math credits.
Mathers believes the program was
very successful; it gave the students
an informative look at a wide varie-
ty of interesting carters. The stu-
dents were attentive throughout the
presentations, and asked innnumera-
blc questions when given the oppor-
tunity.
Mathers was very pleased with the
cooperation received from the com-
munity. The speakers also enjoyed
their time at the school. For some,
this was their initiation into public
speaking.
