Lucan Irish run into
Mount Brydges wall
Lucan Irish split a pair of games
in Western Junior D action last
week, losing to Mount Brydges 5-2
Wednesday night but rebounding
with a 8-6 win over Thedford Sun-
day.
,Irish claimed a 1-0 lead in the first
period when Terry Knowles scored
from David Smith at 5:48. They
clung to that narrow edge until 2:57
of the second when Mount Brydges'
Mike Waun bcat goalie Doug Has -
kelt to tic the game.
Mike Lees added a goal late in the
second to give Mount Brydges the
go-ahead.
Lucan fell behind by two goals af-
ter Mike Rosborough scored during
a power play.
Irish rebounded with a goal by
Glen Marshall at 13:39, closing the
gap. Jeff Hirtzell and Ian Craig as-
sisted on the play.
Mount Brydges.put the game out
of reach, however, with goals by
Waun and Dan Gibson.

Irish came from behind to down
Thedford in a high scoring game
Sunday in which they out -shot
Lumberjacks 43-26.
'Medford jumped into the lead at
the four minute mark of the first
when Darryl Brown scored but Lu -
can reslxmdcd quickly.
Craig found the mark during a
power play after he was set up by
Paul Barnes.
Thcdlord re -took the lead just over
one minute later when Rick Stewart
scored unassisted.
With 5:48 remaining in the peri-
od, Brad Muir scored to tie the game
from Tim Hayter and Scott Deno -
my, but Thedford was unrelenting.
Before the period was out, Lumber-
jacks were on top again with a goal
by Steve Moffat.
Play remained even in the second
period when the two teams matched
goals.
Denomy and Marshall scored for
Lucas. Muir and Barnes drcw assists
on both plays.
In the third, Lucan out -scored
Thedford 4-1 to clinch the win.
Lucan's Dave Smith opened the
third period scoring with an unas-
sisted goal after three minutes of
l
pa Thedford matched it 41 seconds
later when Paul Moffat scored his
second of the night, but the rest of
the period belonged to Lucan.
Paul Deplancke scored near the
half -way mark of the period whcn
he picked up a pass from Muir and
Barnes.
Just over two minutes later, Mar-
shall pumped in his second of the
night from Todd Hayter and Jamie
Gricg, making it 7-6 in favour of
Lucan.
With 1:35 left in the game, Irish
got an insurance goal from Dean
Doerr: Assists on the play went to
Gricg and Muir.
Exeter Atoms get boost
Exctcr Atoms' league record re-
ceived a boost on the weekend with
a 5-3 win over Strathroy and a 5-2
victory against Mount Brydges. At-
oms now have a record of seven
wins and four losses in Shamrock
league a:tion.
Strathroy took a one goal lead in
the first period Saturday, but Exeter
countered with 4:55 remaining in
the period when Scan McCann
scored from Chad Gilfrllan and Tre-
vor Trucmner.
Strathroy replied again with just
six -seconds left in the first to carry
the Icad into the next period.
Ben Guenther opened the scoring
in the second after one minute of
play when he connected with Glen
Hines and Marty DeBruyn.
Gavin Snell added to the score
with a goal at 3:40, giving Exctcr a
3-2 Icad. Trevor Taylor and Brent
Urlin drew assists on the play.
In the third, Trucmner found the
mark after three minutes of play
with assists going to McCann and
DcBruyn.
Strathroy kept things close with
another goal but Exctcr soon re-
stored the lead when Hines scored
with-3:19.1eft in the game. Taylor
drew the lone assist.
In Sunday's game against Mount
Brydges, Exeter took an early lead
and refused to relinquish it.
Goals by Steve Cook and
McCann gave Exeter a two goal
edge by the half -way mark of the
first. Assists on the goals went to
Jamie van Dam, Steve Stire and
Truemner.
Mount Brydges narrowed the gap
with a goal at 5:27 but before the
period was over, Exeter's Ian Jean
had scored on a pass from Taylor.
Exeter scored the only goal of the
second period when McCann found
the mark from Cook.
In the third, Stire added a goal
from McCann after five minutes of
play, ending any speculation.
Mount Brydges managed one
more goal in the third.

Denver England was in goal for
the win.
Jesse Watcrs and Jeremy" Brown
had threeassists each for Lucan.
In their game against London
Sunday afternoon, Lucan fell behind
by two goals in the first period.
Majors added a goal in the second,
seemingly putting a win out of Lu-
can's reach, but the locals rebound-
ed
Jeremy Brown scored two goals in
a row. Both goals were assisted by
Duskocy.
In
thc last minute of play Lucan
pulled England from thc net and
went on the attack with an extra
man. Despite several excellent
chances, they were unable to capi-
talize on the man advantage.
Lucan Novices split a pair of
games -on the weekend, nabbing a 7-
3 victory against Port Stanley and
then dropping a 3-2 decision to
London Major Novices.
Jason Kersey scored unassisted for
Port Stanley Saturday to open the
scoring but Lucan soon pulled to-
gether and came up with a four goal
blitz mastered by Adam Duskocy
(2), Josh Appleman and Steve
NIitchell.
Port Stanley scored the only goal
of the second period when Aaron
Aathoway scored unassisted.
Kurtis Hardy opened the third per-
iod scoring with two goals on the
same shift, just 23 seconds apart.
Duskocy then completed his hat
trick with a goal for Lucan.
Port Stanley later got credit for a
Bullets tie with Belmont
Big V Bullets fought to a 4-4 tic
with Bclrnont on the weekend in
Lampton -Middlesex Peewee action.
Exctcr took the lead just over one
minute into the gamc whcn Derck
Beckett scored unassisted.
Beckett repeated the performance

Exctcr a 2-0 lead.
With 6:53 remaining in the first
period, Scott Parsons found thc

of the period. Jason Weber and Ivan
Geraghty were the goal scorers.
Bclrnont continued to dominate in
thc last period and with three min-
utes remaining, they took the Icad
on goals by Aaron Hardy and Brad
EsLr.
Parsons pulled Bullets out of the
fire in the last minutc of the game
howcvcr, scoring unassisted with 54
seconds left on the clock.
Bombers win
Joey Bicrling may be one of the
hottest goalies in the Lambton-
Middlesex league. Bicrling pulled
off another outstanding shut -out for
Exctcr Optimist Novice Bombers
on the weekend.
Bombers edged out Ildcrton on the
strength of one goal, scored in the
first period by Gcoffrcy Mayer. As-
sists on thc play went to Gavin
'Poole and Mark Parsons.
Bombers now have• a record of
four wins and onc-Ioss in the Lamb -
ton -Middlesex league.
