Lions celebrate 50 years
Your motto of, "We Serve" says it
all.
Those were the words of Ontario's
Lieutenant Governor, The
Honourable Lincoln Alexander at Fri-
day's 50th anniversary celebration of.
the Exeter•Lions club.
He went on to say, "We have -W
million volunteer hours each year in
this country. It's volunteers like you
that make Canada, Ontario and Ex-
eter great.
In conclusion the Lieutenant Gover-
nor said. "No challenge is too big or
too small and you have enriched the
lives of so many less fortunate
people. .
International director Ken Green of
St. Johns. Newfoundland was the
guest speaker to a crowd of more than
250 which included manv former
members of the Exeter club.
The director said. -"'!'here are no
biases in human need. Our biggest
danger is to forget those Tess for-
tunate who need our help. This is an
important time for Lions. We have
never before e:,perienced the oppor-
tunities to seize the challenges ahead
and use the many avenues to achieve
our goals."
Green went on to say the Lions club
across Canada are stronger because
of the co-operation they receive from
Lioness club.
Ile continued, "The vision our
founder Melvin Jones of Chicago had
some 70 years ago was something
special. Ile dreamed of what business
and professionkrf people could do for
less fortunate people. His vision look-
ing inward -became a duty and out-
wardly it became an inspiration."
Exeter Lions president Jack Fuller
also paid Tribute to the local Lioness
club for their great assistance over
the ,past seven years.
A current member of the Exeter
club and past District Governor and
Council Chairman of Multiple District

ceremonies.

club presented lite membership cer-
tificates to Exeter Lions Hob Dinney,
Mel Gainer and Clarence McDowell.
Morn Wolper was honoured as the
club's only priviledged member..
Joe Creech of St. Marys was in at-
tendance as the only charter member
of the club Irom 1937 The other two
living charter members Harvey
Cowen and Benson 'Puckery were
unable to attend.
