•.H Atoms six gave streak snuffed out
Exeter Bell Atoms had their six
winning streak snuffed out on the
weekend when they lost a 6-4 decision
to Ilderton Flyers Saturday. They
quickly rebounded Sunday, beating
Forest 3-1 in what was described as
their best overall team effort of the
season.
Ilderton took a substantial 3-1 lead
in the first period Saturday.
Ted Hoffman scored with 1:54 left
in the first to keep Bell Atoms within
striking distance. Brent Urlin drew
the lone assist on the play.
Ilderton chalked up three more
goals early in the second and Exeter
was unable to answer until the third
when they made an attempt to rally.
At 8:56 of the final period, Hoffman
notched his second goal of the game
on a pass from Urlin. -
Just over one minute later, Ben
Guenther found the mark for Exeter,
again on a pass from Urlin.
Guenther didn't wait 12 seconds
before he put the puck in the net
again, this time unassisted.
But the effort fell just short.
Sunday, Exeter got the upperhand
31 seconds into the second after a
scoreless first period. Urlin picked up
a pass from Guenther and scored.
At 7:13 Kevin Ross scored
unassisted to give Exeter some
insurance.
Forest retaliated with a goal of
their own late in the second, but Bell
Atoms quickly restored their two goal

The Toronto team were depending
upon their burly centre forward to
score their goals, but they had to have
someone else do the job. Kim
Crawford effectively blocked their
star and frustrated their team.
They eventually won 1-0, which was'
their lowest score of the tournament.
Panthers did score on them, but the
goal was disallowed and a penalty
was given instead.
Friday afternoon, Panthers played
their best game when they won the
quarter-final3 tI against ParrySotind.

Saturday morning. Panthers
played T.A. Stewart from Peter-
borough. Stewart scored first but Ex-
eter tied the game with a goal scored
by Lisa Ellerington, who showed true
grit, playing all weekend with a
broken wrist.
From that point, the locals totally
dominated the Peterborough girls,
but couldn't score.
After twenty minutes of overtime,
the score was still tieti at one. Then
after a shootout, T.A. Stewart advanc-
ed to the gold medal final winning 2-1
on penalty strokes.
In the bronze medal game, the girls
lost 2-1 to St. Catharines Collegiate.
Grade nine player Becci Farquhar
scored the single Panther goal.
The girls made tremendous pro-
gress this year, remaining undefeated
until OFSAA competition.
Workman praised the team's ef-
forts, saying they placed South Huron
on the sporting map by "playipg as a
team should".
