In this world there are many stones
made into monuments. They can be
found in London, England, as a
Cenotaph, in France as the Arc de
Triomphe, and Ottawa has a War
Memorial.
People at the age of 46 and younger
have no knowledge of the Second
World War. They have no idea what
it meant to have food shortages, or
seeing tanks'roll through quiet town
streets. They don't know about the
loss of life, the loss of freedom, when
they see these stones.
To those older than 50, these stones
remind them of the many thousands
of young men who left Canada to join
troops in Britain. Many young lives
were lost, and the absence' from
Canada was often for five years or
more.
Today a strong movement called
Ploughshares has as its objectives to
turn tools for warfare into
ploughshares. We must make tools
for peace, not for warfare.
All of us are children of one Father,
and God loves all regardless of creed,
colour or race.
The Son of God went to War, but it
was a Holy War. Jesus taught us to
turn the other cheek. He stressed the
love we have for one another. He call-
ed us the Salt of the Earth. As Chris-
tians adhering to the principles of
Christ, we must love one another. He
warned us to be faithful to His rules
to love our neighbour as ourselves.
