Riverview Institute meets
Friendships and memories was the
theme that Jean McKichan chose for
the programme when the members of
Riverview Women's Institute met
with theresidentsof the nursing home
in the auditorium of Craigholme
• recently.
Jean read two poems, "Let Me Live
In A House 13v The Side Of The Road"
and "When the Women Go Away."
While enlarging on the motto
"Friends".
Marie Campbell. pointed out that
everyone needs friends and. that a
friendly smile could brighten so-
meone's day.
The Ilderton Entertainers provided
lively old time music which brought
many memories to the audience.
The roll call was answered by -
quoting an autogragh verse. During
the social time while Jean
McKichan's committee served a cup
of tea and cookies the Riverveiw
members enjoyed visiting with the
residents of the nursing home.
During the business part of the
meeting Gertrude Rosser and Wilma
McIntosh gave reports from the Area •
Convention.
The next meeting of Riverview
Women's Institute will be a pot luck
luncheon on December 1, in the
Masonic Hall at 12:30 p.m. At that
time each member is asked to bring
a child's gift for the Salvation Army
and a gift for the Cancer Cupboard.

'McClure' play
at Blyth Theatre
The Blyth Festival is pleased to an-
nounce two performances of McClure
by Munroe Scott at Blyth Memorial
Hall on Saturday, November 14, 1987.
The production comes from
Theatre Aquarius in Hamilton and
stars Stephen Black as Robert Baird
McClure, the first layman moderator
of the United Church of Canada. It is
produced in cooperation with United
Church Television.
The play centres on Dr. McClure's
twenty-five adventurous years in
China as a surgeon -missionary. A
true story of a Canadian hero, the
play has recently been mounted at the
1987 Guelph Spring Festival and has
jsut returned from 10 performances
at Theatre New Brunswick.
I has, received both popular and
critical acclaims. A "life-size portrait
of a hero..." says the Globe and Mail
while the Guelph Daily Mercury calls
the show "superb theatre that
deserves a wide audience".
Tickets for McClure are $10.50 and

The readers write
Dear Sir,
On Sunday, November 8 I attended
the Remembrance Day service at Ex-
eter's cenotaph. I go t remember
those who died to keep our country
free. I go to honour those who fought,
returned and are working to make our
country a better place to live.
Yes, we stood in the rain to do so;
but the pictures in my mind were of
those young men who died agonizing,
lonely deaths in a sea of mud. 1f they
gave so,much, can we refuse to do so
little?
A pitifully small number of Exeter
spectators chose to.remember. That
saddens me. Traffic was allowed to
flow freely behind those who stood in
the street to honour their comrades.
That angers me. Why cannot.one
block be closed to traffic for 2n
minutes?
I know our main street is par'
highway, but 1 am cert thr
necessary permission could tx• obtain
ed. I don't consider that too much to
ask to honrrlr thr who answered
their country's call.
Sincerely,
. Ilelen Hodgins
