girls cross country team has clinch-
ed the Huron -Perth championship for
the 14th consecutive season.
After tallying team totals, South
Iluron found themselves in a tie with
St. Marys, each team with 20 points.
However,SIIDIIS's fourth runner
logged a better time, giving Exeter a
slight edge and the championship. -
The girls will now advance to
.WOSSA.
Joe F'ulop,; coach of the team, said
the Midget squad will have a good
chance of taking it all at the WOSSA
meet, to be held Thursday in Aylmer.
He predicts the Senior girls will place
first or second.
The final standings in Huron -Perth
have South Huron at the. top of the
Midget girls division and the Senior
girls division. Clinton has captured
-the Junior girls and Junior boys
categories. The Midget boys division
was. won by Stratford St. Michaels
while Stratford Central picked up top
honours in the Senior Boys category.
- Kim Van Dongen, a driving force
with the Midget girls squad this
season. battled head to head with Kel-
ly Aldis of St. Marys but lost by one
metre. •
The race evened the girls' total
wins at three each. There will he a
show -down- between the two at
WOSSA. Van Dongen and Aldis are
Qlassed among the top 20 runners in
Ontario.
Michelle Chalmers came up with a
fourth place finish and Anna Szabo
• placed sixth. Deanna Olmstead turn-
ed in an eighth while Racquel Thomp-
son in 16th and Chrystal .Jonas in 23rd
rounded out the \lidget team"
Brenda Vanderlaan moved up from
Junior to Senior' and anchored the
older squad with 'a second place
finish. Jeanette Van Esbroeck came
fourth in a strong effort and
Rosemary Regier placed fifth. Wan-
da Turnbull managed a ninth place
finish.
Christine Chalmers held down
seventh place until an injury put her
out of the race.
Janice Ducharme, Sandra
Rooseboom and Sheri Varley took
13th, 14th and 18th place respectively.
South Huron Senior boys placed se-
cond over-all behind Stratford
Central.
Larry Miller ran his best race of the
Near. .placing third while Henri
DelBruyn. a Junior runner. came in
eighth.
Jason JICF'alls.crossed the finish
line in 12th spot while Andrew Oswald
placed 155th, Scott Regier 16th, M.
Vern I7th and Brent Bell 18th.
Midget boys received results from
Shawn McFalls who placed loth, Ron1
Dube I5th. and slim Ahrens 23rd.

Novices found themselves embroiled
in a goalie's battle when they took on
Sea forth and fought to a scoreless tie
in the Lambton Middlesex league.
Both teams were equally balanced
in every sector of the ice and they
received excellent performances
from their uoalies.

Wednesday night's loss. combined
with the return of Barnes may have
translated into resultA Saturday in
Belmont. Irish romped over their op-
ponents 7-3 for their third win of the
season. •
Barnes set the tone for the game
just 49 seconds into the first period
when he scored from Ilayter and
F'ebrey.
Belmont was quick to respond. Tak-
ing advantage of a power play, Todd
McGugan scored at 17:05 to tie the
game. McGugan pumped in a second
goal just 23 seconds later,'still with a
man advantage, but this time
unassisted.
Lunn maintained their composure
and at 13:38 of the first, managed to
score in a power play situation when
Greig was set up by Doerr.
An unassisted goal by -Pat Kennedy
with 39 seconds remaining in the first
gave Irish a 3-2 lead going into the se-
cond. They built on that lead with
three unanswered goals in the last
three minutes of the middle period.
F'ebrey scored unassisted with 2:26
to go and then Mike Hirtzell found the
mark with 45 seconds left on the clock.
Assists went to fan Craig and Mar-
shall. Just 12 seconds showed on the
board when Marshall finished the se-
cond period scoring with a goal from
Jeff Hirtzell and Greig.
Lucan added to the score once more
in the first minute of play in the third
when Mike llirtzell scored his second
of the night from Darren Neil.
Belmont replied with a goal from
John Evert less than one minute later,
but could not muster a rally.
Lucan goalie Doug Haskell faced 30
shots on goal while his counterpart,
Bill ilellems fended off 27 Irish shots.
Luke Sims. in net for Exeter. was
at the top of his game. He held off
several scoring chances and then.
with just ten seconds left to play in the I
game. fended off a Forest breakaway
with a great save.
Trevor Obre, Lucas Forrest and!
Sean Guenther turned in excellent
performances on defence.

Exeter shuffleboard
Ross Marshall came out on top of
a six game match Wednesday in Ex-
eter shuffleboard action with 321
points. He was followed by Mabel
McKnight with 244.
In the five game series Wednesday,
Ross Richardson shot 365 to lead the
pack. He was followed by Verda
Lightfoot with 199.
Lorne Shelton, Allen Johns and
Tom Yellow finished in a three way
tie for third spot.
Ernie Ross pulled out 301 points to
capture a four game series Wednes-
day. Lorne Marshall followed with 255
and Howard Johns was third with 235.
011ie Essery was the one to beat
Thursday in shuffleboard action.
Scoring 389, Essery beat A. Hummel
who turned in a score of 317.
Allen Johns took third place with
286 while Stewart Miner rounded out
the top four with 285.
In the four game series T'hur'sday,
Charles Tindall scored 280 to first
place. He was followed by M. Eizenga
with 272 and Ross Richardson with
251.
