roast beef buffet for about 60 hungry

Legion news
The Grand Bend Legion continues
to have its weekly meat raffles each
Friday. still a very successful fund-
raiser. The w•irgters for September 11
were: Al Paul, Jen Doyle. .Bonnie
Humphries. Marion Shay and Gord
Glazier. -
The mystery ,draw winners were
Nlary Paul, Marg Monteith and Dor-
thy Calhoun.

season has begun!
On Saturday evening, the residents
and friends in Green Haven Trailer
Park held the season's closing party
at the Grand Bend Legion. The ladies
of the Legion catered a midnight buf-
fet for 150 people, as the crowd danc-
ed to the music of a D.J. There was
lots of fun. a few speeches and some
tearful goodbyes "until next
summer''.
11ounl Carmel PTA elections
Teachers and parents gathered
together on September 17 al Our Lady
of Mount Carmel school gym for the
first P.i'. A meeting of the year. Prin-
cipal Laurie Kraftcheck introduced
the 1987-88 teaching staff to the
parents and outlined his goals for the
year. including the policy on work
study habits and rules Of conduct for
the sc rx►I buses.
The student council will be plann-
ing monthly hot dog sales this year as
a fund-raiser. The playground needs

GB Mosquitos 'A' champions
Dublin was the damp rainy setting
for the GB atom soccer tournament
last Saturday. At 9:90 a.m. GB played
against Nairn and Feat them with a
4-0 score Simon Desjardine scored
two. Michael Stanlake and John
Strong each added singles in this shut-
out. GB then got a bye which put them
into the Knits Ilderton-Feat a•tired
Exeter team. putting !Merlon into the
finals against Grand Bend.
No score in the lir•st halt The GB
had a player ousted Irom the game
with two warning cards. Playing with'
only ten players now. with no goals on
either side. GB had to work hard. Des-
jardinej.nally� hit the Merlon net. lif-
ting thj.ir hopes. With only ten
seconds left, in the game. Strong
scored the insurance goal giving GB
a 2-0 win and the consolation trophy.
In West Williams, the GB Peewees
were playing another tournament.
The team Fx'at Lucan :3-0 putting them
into the "A" division. Brad Page.
Dave Maguire, and ,Jeff Lingard
scored the GB goals. 'Then. they met
a tough Sl. Colun►ban tearn. The
game ended with a 1-1 ,tie. Steve
Chapdelaine scored the lone goal.
Alt►•r overtime. it w•as still tied. thus
a shoot out followed with (.B coming
up winners 4-1. advancing them into
the finals.
Good goaltending by Cullen Kobe
and Steve Van Denberk.
The championship final against Ex-
eter I ended scoreless.. After over-
time it was still scoreless. In a.
deciding shootout. the tenth shooter
finally scored with (;rand Bend not-
ching the championship trophy.
The G11Atom won
the B trophy. the GB Mosquitos cap-
tured the "A" trophy, and now the GB
Peewees won the "A" trophy. as well.

There will be a meeting in October
for parents of those students receiv-
ing first sacraments this year - com-
munion, confession and confirmation,
with Father Beck of Grand Bend and
'Father Goyeau of Mount Carmel.
Following the school business, PTA
elections were held. The teacher
representatives will be Laurie Kraft -
check and Helen Ryan. The parent
representatives will be Rick Reaburn,
Kathy Gielen, Beth Jean, Marilyn
Thornpson and Phil and Ellen Conlin.
The new PTA executive includes as
past -president, Roberta Walker; vice-
president Burl DeBont; secretary
Diane Kaak; and treasurer Anne
Reaburn. No president was elected,
so the executive will function, for the
present, with a chairperson in
committee.
The last part of the Mount Carmel
Centennial will be wrapped up on Oc-
tober 2, when plaques will be
presented at the First Friday Mass,
to those students who won the balloon
race, begun last June :3. This project
was sponsored by the PTA and the
"tale of the trail of balloons" which
promises to be an interesting one, will
he found in the papers on October 7.
Church of God
Members of the Grand Bend
Church of God have resumed their
meetings for the fall season. Mrs. Pat
1)es jardine attended a conference for
minister's wives held in East Lans-
ing. Michigan, this weekend.
The ladies of the Church of God met
last Monday evening September 14.
'I'heystudied "This is Bangladesh,"
as topic for discussion. Afterward
they enjoyed a craft session, as Anne
Marie Wilson demonstrated how to
make pom-poms.
Lunch hostesses were Janet Des-
jardine and Pearl Chamberlain.
The youth group of the church at-
tended an ecurflenical "Church Day"
at Canada's Wonderland last
weekend; great fun.
The topic of Rev. Stan Desjardine's
sermon for Sunday was "A new ser-
vant is born", based on the scriptures.
Acts 9:1-16. It relates the conversion
of Saul to become Saint Paul.
,Janet Desjardine performed a solo
for the morning servie. At the even-
ing service, the worship leader was
Beth Desjardine, and the discussion
centered on Ezekiel's call to become
God's prophet.
An adult -fellowship barbecue will
be held on Saturday, September 26 at
6:30 p.m. at the Church of God. Peo-
ple are requested to bring their own
table service and of course, a hearty
appetite!
About lawn
The Anglican ladies of St. John's
Anglican Church will be hosting the
Grand Bend Thanksgiving
Ecumenical this year, on October 13,
Tuesday at 8 p.m. All the ladies from
the local churches are invited to
attend.
The Philip Walker family enjoyed
a camping trip this weekend up to
Wiarton, overnight at Tobermory, a
sail on a glass -bottomed boat to
Flowerpot Island and a tour of the
Collingwoo:( Beaver Valley area on
Sunday. There was very little rain up
there on either day, so their luck held
for the weather too.
Bible study continues at Bend
The bible study and coffee hour
resumed last Tuesday, September 15,
at 9:30 a.m. in the Sauble Court
Lounge with 15 ladiesattending. Nita
Sinclair opened the session with
prayer. The hymns and discussion
were led by Millie Desjardine.
The ladies are continuing their
study of "David and His Psalms" as
they considered the question "Who
Was David's God?" David's prayer in
Psalm 62 introduces us to God, the
Protector, the Defender, the Saviour
and our refuge.
All ladies are welcome to join this
ecumenical bible study group, who
meet each week on Tuesday morning.
9:30 a.m. in the Sauble Court Lounge.
