Kingsville captures Junior P championship
The competition was keen and
calibre of baseball excellent at the
weekend all -Ontario Junior 'D'
baseball tournament held in Exeter
sponsored by the Exeter. Junior Co -
Ops and the Exeter Optimist club.
While Kingsville won the champion-
ship with four victories each of the
other five clubs won at least one
game.
The eventual champions from
Kingsville started strong with vic-
tories over Little Brittain and
Lakeside . before losing 7-4 to
Shelbourne. They bounced right back
'9 trounce the Exeter Co-ops 16-5
before turning the tables on
Shelbourne in the championship final
by a score of 15-9.
The Exeter Co -Ops won their first
game by a score of 7-3 over Glanbrook
from the Hamilton area. In their next
start they were defeated 8-1 by
Shelbourne and were eliminated by
the eventual winners from Kingsville
.by a score of 16-5.
Lakeside from the St. Marys area
used booming bats in their first game
as they bombed Shelbourne by a 13-1
count. Then they lost 10-4 to Kingsville
before trouncing Little Brittain 10-3.
In a semi-final contest Lakeside lost
a tough 7-6 decision to Shelbourne giv-
ing up two runs in the final inning.
In the first game for the Exeter Co -
Ops, Scott Lovie pitched a strong
-game. He allowed only five hits to
Galbrook in the seven inning contest
and seven opposing batters by way of
strikeouts. Lovie retired their side in
order in three innings.
On the offensive side of the ledger,
Exeter hit the scoreboard in the first
inning as Doug Schade walked, and
scored on consecutive singles from
the bats of Darren Akey, Ray Anstett
and Scott Lovie.
In the Exeter second Mike Neil
drew a free pass moved around to
third on a Dennis Kints. single and
home on a sacrifice by Steve Merner.
With one out in the third, Ray Anstett
bashed a long home run to deep left
field and Scott Lovie followed with a
two -bagger. He eventually crossed
the plate on an error.
In Exeter's second game the Co-
Ops could only come up with a single
run as they lost 8-1 to Shelbourne. Ray
Anstett led off the second inning with '
a walk and scored on Mike Neil's
single and a couple of Shelbourne

Campbellville on the weekend to take
part in the 1987 OBA championships

Royals win quarter -final
in three straight games.
Exeter Royals won their quarter-
final series with Poplar Hill in three
straight games.
After edging them 3-2 in Exeter in

game one. they travelled to Poplar
Hill and rode the two hit pitching per-
formance of Dan Heywood to a 1-0
win. Heywood also scored the winn-
ing run in the top of the ninth inning
when he singled and scored on Glen
take OBA championships
and after four wins and one loss in the
double -knockout tourney, they carne
home with the championship.
Pitcher Matt Munro turned out to
be the key to success in the final game
of the series when Lucan came up

Labour Day bowling
Thirty bowlers met for an afternoon
of lawn bowling Latour Day. Two
games were played. Jitney Chairlady
Isabel Rogerson had competitors
measure all bowls within 30 inches of
the "cat". This made for rather large
scores.
In the second game, players
weren't allowed to talk during the
fourth and seventh ends. Speaking
forced players to forfeit a point. Lots
of points were lost on those ends.
Prizes went to the following: Larry
Rieck 2 wins, 42, Mark Ilookey 2 wins,
39, Sam Bower 2 wins, 39, Isabel
Rogerson 2 wins. 36, Percy Campbell
2 wins, 35, Greta Richards 2 wins, 33,
and Marion. Dearing 2 wins, 27.
One game winners were: Willa
Williams, Audrey MacGregor, Olive
Hicks, Bill Rogerson, Morley
Wadsworth, Rinies Marsman, Emma
Campbell, Roy Blanchard, Stella
Taylor and Barry Williams.
A pot luck supper preceded a fall
meeting chaired by president Mar-
shall Dearing.
Greens keepers were given a vote
of thanks by the members for many
hours of volunteer work they put in
over the summer, keeping the greens
in good shape. The executive and the
flower bed caretakers were also given
votes of thanks.
Charles Hendy was made a life
member of the club.

nomination of officers. The following

against Langton. Munro was the win-
ning pitcher. He allowed ten hits.
struck out seven batters and walked
two.
After Steve Dame hit a home run in
the bottom of the sixth to tie the score
at 9-9, Langton regained the lead with
two more runs in the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh, Lucan
rallied after Chris Haskett and Dylan
England both singled and then Munro
hit a home run to left field, driving in
the winning runs.
Lucan won the game 12-11.
Haskett picket+up four hits in five
attempts at bat. England went three -
for -four.
Lucan started the series Saturday
with a 15-2 rout over Cotlam, largely
on the strength of the performance of
pitcher Shaun O'Rielly, O'Rielly
allowed only two hits over the course
of the game, striking out six op-
ponents and walking four.
Lucan treated Thamesford in a
similar fashion later in game two of
the series. handing them a 15-3 loss.
Brian Maslen was on the mound for
Lucan in game two. He threw just
seven hits, striking out three batters
and walking three.
Munro went four -for -four at bat, hit-
ting a home run, a triple, a double and
a single. Dame picked up a home run.
In game three, Lucan came up
against Langton in what would be the
first of three games. Munro pitched
a three -hitter to give Lucan a 13-2 vic-
tory and send them into the finals of
the double -knockout tourney
undefeated.
The bottom momentarily fell out of
Lucan's march for the trophy when
pitchers O'Rielly and Maslen were
roughed up for 13 runs, by Langton.
The 13-6 loss forced a third and final
game, but Lucan recovered to win the
championship.

Heywood struck out 11 batters in
going the distance. Steve Vuag and
Jim Daniels gave up fourthits while
striking out 12 Royal batters.
Game three in Exeter saw Poplar
toll unable to field a team and the
series went to Exeter.
Lucan White Sox won their series
over West Corners. Nairn and Ilder-
ton have not completed their series.
The semifinals will get underway
next week with the Royals playing
either Lucan Irish or Lucan Harrys.
In St. Marys on the weekend.
Royals lost their first game 5-0 to St.
Marys Creamery. They won 5-0 over
Fullarton on Dan Heywood's two hit-
ter and were eliminated on Monday
by Shakespeare 5-0.
