Huron Plowmen's Association
president Ernie'1'albot said 69 lands
were plowed which included 20 4-H
members, but not those entered in the
conservation class or the
businessmen's division.
Judges for the annual event were
Keith Leslie of -Georgetown, a world
competitor in recent years and Roy
Craig of West Caledon. Also in atten-
dance was Ontario Plowmen's
•,Associatiotrpresident Albert Carson
of Listowel.
Audrey Bos of Beigrave was nam-
ed Queen of the Furrow besting five
other contestants. She was crowned
by last year's wiener Sandra Hunt
who will represent Huron in next
week's International Plowing Match
to be held near Meaford. Jane Ander-
son of Londesboro was'runnerup.
The other contestants were Donna
Johnston, Bluvale; Diane Hamilton,
flensall; Laurie Pentland and Lana
Jones, Goderich township.
In junior plowing competition Jeff
McGavin was the champion and the
reserve title was won by Leanne Whit-
more. Both are from RR 4, Walton.
,rtirian McGavin also of RR 4 Walton
won the senior championship with the
reserve crown going toPauI Dodds,
RR 5, Seaforth.
Best in the antique class was Ken
Betties of Brucefield. Neil Williams
took under 15 honours and Walter
Busi won in around the field.
Winners in the businessmen's class
were Earl Dicker', Herb Bierling and
Lionel Wilder, all of Hay township and
Ken Duncan from Usborne.
In the horseshoe pits, Lorne Elliott
and Iiarold Pridham of Staff were the
best tossers and Leland Desjardine,
Grand Bend and Elgin Kipfer,
Dashwood finished in second place.
. Moss Higgins, Ron Pentland and
Bob Bell were best for the men in the
nail driving contest and the female
winners were Sandra Hunt, Norma
Gemmell and Irene Whitmore.
LEADER DINNER
A dinner program called "Huron
County - An Agricultural Leader" is
planned for October 5. It will
celebrate Agri -Foci(' Week. As part of
the program, the Huron County
Junior Farmers' Association is.spon-
soring a Rural Leadership Awards
Presentation. The awards will be
presented to people who have provid-
ed outstanding leadership to their
rural communities inifuron County
during the past year or two.
The committee will welcome
nominations for these awards from
organizations or individuals until
Monday. September 21. Nominations
can be made through the Clinton of-
fice of the Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Foci('.

CONSERVATION
Nominations are now being receiv-
ed for the Norm Alexander Conserva-
tion Award. The award recognizes
local landowners for their work in
conserving our soil and water
resources. This is accomplished
through conservation farming techni-
ques which focus on conservation
tillage, a good crop rotation, as well
as implementing structural control
measures where necessary.
The nominations should be submit-
ted to Brent Kennedy at the Clinton
OMAF Office by no later than Friday,
September 25. 1987. The nominees.
will, at that time, be surveyed by the
Joint Program team as to what they
are actually doing on their farm.
Final judging will be done by the
previous three years' winners.
