Dashwood seniors plan. trip

and supper at a church in Simcoe

Women's Institute
September means the beginning of
organizational meetings. September
1 - the Dashwood Women s Insitute
held their monthly meeting. The
president Mrs. Katherine Becker
opened the meeting asking each
member to complete a rebus. A dwarf
tree was decorated with apples
representing "Roles, apples play then
and now". Apple crafts using dif-
ferent techniques were on display.
The roll call was in the form of a
school picture each member was in.
The 73rd London Area convention
at St. Marys will be held October 15
and 16 at 12 noon and the banquet 5:30
p.m. Delegates Sherri Stade, Gloria
Beierling, Martha Weigand and
Katherine Becker.
A donation was made to the South
Huron hospital Auxiliary. Mrs.
Katherine Becker attended a
workshop in Mt. Elgin August 11.
The Fall Rally will be October 5 at
9:30 in Londesboro. Delegates will be
Mary Rader and Katherine Becker.
The program was presented by
Aldene Wolfe and Sherri Stade. Mrs.
Mary Weber demonstrated how to
macrame aluminum chairs.
Bunco was enjoyed with winners,
Florence Martene, Verna Becker,
Gertie Stade and Gloria Beierling.

The senior citizens will meet at the
Dashwood Community Centre - Mon-
day, September 21 at 8 p.m. Mrs.

Grace and Ray Morlock celebrated
their 45th wedding anniversary
August 29 with their family ,at
Oakwood Inn. The Morlocks' are
holidaying at Elora Mill Country Inn
in the Muskoka area.
Mr. and Mrs. Stan Preszcator were
Sunday supper guests with Mr. and
Mrs. Dave Isaac and Tasha, Exeter.
The sermon topic at Zion United
Church Sunday was taken from
Genesis 2:4-9, 15-17, Luke 10:25-28 titl-
ed "Our Role and Relationship".
Choir practice will be held Wednes-
day at 8 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
Sunday school resumes this coming
Sunday September 13 at 11 a.m.
The September Official Board
meeting will be held September 16 at
8 p.m. in the Sunday School rooms.
10th anniversary of Camp Bimini
All former campers, councillors,
staff directors, and friends are in-
vited to attend the anniversary
celebration on Sunday, September 20
from 2 to 5 p.m. at the camp.
The U.C.W. September meeting
will be held Thursday September 10
at 8 p.m. in the Sunday School rooms.

Glena Tripp from Centralia will be
showing slides of her trip to the Holy
Land. All members of the congrega-
tion, men and women, are welcome
to come and enjoy these slides.
Ron and Jane Green of Pilot Butte
Saskatchewan spent their holiday
visiting his parents Ruth and Eldon
Smith and relatives of Crediton.
They also spent a week with Jane's
mother Mrs. Jaunita Dudek and her
sister Marie and family in London.
Happy Birthday to Rev. Brian
Elder who celebrated his birthday
September 6.

Labour Day was just another day
of labour at the Boyle household. We
moved the Dashwood Library from
the east side of the building to the
north west side (next to our own
house). I hope the library patrons will
take note of the change. We had to
make room for two new
entrepreneurs.
Business Association
The Business Association meeting
will be held September 14 at
Dashwood Community Centre at 8
p.m. President Peter Becker invites
everyone to attend as it is election of
officers night.
Sunday School to start
Shower, birth at Varna

Congratulations to Bill and Helen
Taylor on the birth of their ninth
grandchild, a baby boy born to Don-
na and Brian Glanville on August 31.
June, Julie and Nancy Webster
hosted a miscellaneous bridal shower
for Shelley Fletcher (June's niece) on
Sunday September 6. Thirty-five
relatives and friends attended.
Shelley's forthcoming marriage is
September 26 in Kirkton and Julie will
ba playing the music at it.
Sunday School begins
Sunday, September 13 will be the
start of the Varna Sunday School. Any
children in the community interested
in attending are welcome. Wednes-
day, September 9 at 7 p.m. there will
be a Varna Sunday School Teacher's
Meeting in the church basement.
Thursday, September 10 the Youth
Group I ( younger) meets at Varna at
7:30 p.m.

Lorelei Robinson will be giving a
presentation on her time in Brazil.
The Huron -Perth Presbyterial Ex-
ecutive Meeting is September 14 in
Stratford. The Regional Fall Rally is
in Bayfield September 30 at 6:30 p.m.
The Varna Singers will provide
special music and Neil Anderson of
Stratford will be the guest speaker.

The sympathy of the community is
extended to the family of the late Mrs.
Jean Pooley. A number from the area
called at the Hopper -Hockey Funeral
home to pay their last respects. Mrs.
Pooley and her husband ran the Win-
chelsea store at one time.
Sunday services
Sunday worship service will be at
10 o'clock. Promotion Sunday for the
children of the Sunday School will be
held during church service. Sunday
School will follow the church service.
Mrs. Laura French, Mrs. Susan Ja-
ques, Mrs. Linda Johns and Mrs.
Nancy Smith will lead the next 4-H
club which is "A Taste of Ontario
Fruit and Vegetables." Any girl or
boy between the age of 12 and 21 in-
terested in taking part in this club
should contact one of the leaders
named above before September 14.

Sharon Chuter and Ruth Johnson
led the worship on the theme with
readings "This Is September",
"Learn of Me" and "Never Give Up".
The Scripture reading was from Pro-
verbs 4 and a hymn "This is My
Father's World" was sung.
Sharon handed out verses of a poem
"One Room School House" and
everyone took part each reading a
verse.This brought back memories
for some. They ended the worship
with a prayer "Help Us To Be Wise".
The committee then served delicious
fruit salads.
Next meeting is October 1 and Jane
Davidson from Bayfield will be
speaking on India. This should be a
very interesting evening.
