a teenager, Rogers was 27 before he.
made the decision to become a pastor.
The youngest in a family of 11, he
worked for a time in an electrical fac-
tory in Guelph before signing up for
a correspondence course from
Eastern Pentecostal Bible College in
Peterborough. During this period he
held a full-time job in a Port Elgin
dairy and pastored a small store -front
church on the verge of closing in
Southampton. While he was there the
congregation grew from 12 to 60, and
a new church seating 250 has now
been. built between the tWo
municipalities.
Other pastorates included a term as
assistant pastor in Galt, ordination
while serving in Meaford, over seven
years in Windsor as that congregation
grew from 60 to 500, and overseeing
the building of a church in Belleville.
Rogers came to Exeter from Peo-
ple's Church in Hamilton, where he
served under senior minister Keith

first sermon from his new pulpit on

.Gooyou, a former Exeter pastor.
Rogers believes his pain ministry
is bible teaching that his
a practical
approach to Christianity. He main-
tains that the concept that the paid
clergy- should do everything for a
passive congregation is not biblical.
Ministry means everyone being of
service )others.. He -hopes to teach
the members.of his congregation to
discern their spiritual. gifts, and
motivate them to use those gifts for
the benefit of their fellow man, and to
the glory of God.
Rogers plans a family emphasis at
the Exeter church, with something to
appeal to all ages, and programs
dealing with all aspects of life. i He is
pleased the Exeter church has a
gymnasium I.
Rogers and his wife Carol are
presently living in the home of a vaca-
tioning family, and are looking for
temporary quarters while they decide
whether to build or buy a house in
Exeter.
