Exeter 15quirts lose second gams
In squirt action, Exeter I lost only
its second game of the season to Ar-
va. Hampered by the absence of some
of the top players the team just could
not put it together against a strong Ar-
va team. Darryl Parsons and .Jackie
Vanesbroeck played well for Exeter I.
Exeter II took advantage of Exeter
l's loss and tookover second plat,* in
the standings after beating a strong
Coldstream team by a 3-1 score.
Exeter III had a week off.

Exeter II managed to stay close
• with Lucan 1 for most of the game but
some late goals put the game away
for Lucaw' 1 by a 5-2 score.
In Mosquito action Exeter I.had no
trouble with Nairn II.' The short -
manned Exeter I team, strengthened
by atom players Marty Debruyn,
Brian McAllister and squirt. Trevor
Boersina, took it to Nairn all night
and Nairn was lucky that Exeter did
not capitalize on all its chances. The
final score was 8-0 for Exeter I.
Scoring were Sivichay Sengkhoun-
many 13), Marty Debruyn (2), Rit-
chie Dobson. Jamie Dougall and
Eugene Boersina.
Dennis Welsh played very well for
Exeter 1.
Exeter II. with help from four
atoms, disposed of Bryanston by a 6-0
score last week.. Scoring for Exeter
wereJeff Sararas, Billy Kline (2) and
Joel Campbell i3r.
Rob Lynn and ('had Gilfillan played
well.
In an exhibition game, Exeter II
travelled to Goderich and after a hard -
fought game beat Goderich 3-0. Rit-
chie Dobson. Joel Campbell .and
Jamie VanDam scored for Exeter II.
Mark Brintnell was hurt and will
likely -be lost for the.bahmce pf the
season'.
In their league game this week, Ex-'
eter II continuedlheir winning ways
as they polished off Grand Bend by a
4 -0 -score.
Trevor Taylor was outstanding for
Exeter I1. Scoring for Exeter were
Jamie VanDam, Marty Debruyn and
Joel Campbell._

during an exhibition soccer game against Delaware. Delaware took
a 2-0 lead in the first half, but Exeter managed to tie the game in
the second. The final score was 2-2.

In Bantam action. Exeter closed
out the season with a 2-2 tie against
Delaware.
With forwards playing on defense

this game, Exeter had trouble putting
together good passing"combinations.
Delaware took a 2-0 first half lead
but the Exeter boys and.girls fought
back in the second half to gain the tie.
Scoring for Exeter were Brent Bell
and Henri Debruyn.

The Bantams have now finished
their regular season. The bantam

on Number 4 and Liz Hodgins won

Last week's Lucan and District
Minor Soccer League action saw
Lucan 1 Moms travelling to Exeter to
play against Exeter II. Lucan's scor-
ing attack was led by Scan Ryan who
scored two goals with singles going to
Brent Bellamy. Jeremy Brown and
Daryl Boshart.
Strong goal -keeping was provided
by Jeremy 'Johnson and Daryl
Boshart. Lucan's 5-2 win conipletes
the season's regular schedule and
leaves Lucan I with a record of eight
wins and four losses.
Ilderton gave up a 1-0 loss to Lucan
II in Lucan because of a player shor-
tage. That gives Lucan II a final
season record of six wins and six

added to Ilderton's squad for a close,
well -played fun game for both teams.
On August 19, Lucan Mosquito boys
hosted a formidable St. Columban
team. Lucan, having lost earlier in
the season to St. Columban, was
eager to play the re -match and
started strongly. Two goals by Brian
Heckman and one by Nathan Brown.
gave Lucan a 3-0 lead by half-time.
Lucan then shifted intefa more defen-
sive style of game.
Excellent performances by Matt
Munro and Shaun Fairweather at
mid -field and Jason Dayman in goal,
plus over-all effort and determination
by the entire ucan team resulted in
a final score of 3-0 over St. Columban:
LucanPeewee boys also hosted a
St. Columban team but the outcome
was different. Play was elose in the
first half after St. Columban took a 2-1
lead. Lucan's goal was scored by
Jason Dukeshire.
Jason Burgess tied. the game at 2-2
in the second half but St. Columban
scored three more times.
Juvenile girls
Exeter Juvenile girls jumped out to
a great start in their best -of -three
playoff series against Strathroy when
they handed their opponents a 25-8
rout in game one.
Shelley Skinner was the starting
pitcher for Exeter. Kelly Whiteford
relieved her in the second and then
proceeded to strike out ten batters in
the next four innings. She also pick-
ed off two more players for outs in the
regular course of the game.
Lee O'Rourke scored five runs in
six attempts at bat and hit a home
run.
Jodi McBride went five -for -five at
bat and Sherry Kerslake went five -
for -six.
The winner of this series will ad-
vance to meet the winner of a best -of-
- three series between Poplar Hill and
West Williams.
-The final will be a best -of -five
series.
A Lucan rally sparked by goals
from Len Carter and Jason Dukeshire
almost caught St. Columban but the
game ended with a 5-4 score in St. Col-
umban's favour. Mike Van Bussel
played very well for Lucan.
In Peewee girls action, Lucan
Leprechauns defeated London's Oak
McGuinness by a score of 4-0. Two
goals by Tanya Reymer and one goal
each by Amy Sullivan and Nancy Van
Busse! gave Lucan the win.
This week Bantam girls' played
against London Cosmos. Despite
great goal -keeping by Heather
Goudy, London scored in the last two
minutes of the game. handing Lucan
a 1-0 loss.
