The sermon topic at Zion United
Church was taken from I Peter 1:1-12
titled "What Does The Church Mean
To You?"
Vacation Bible School was held last
week with students ranging from 103
to 1I7 in attendance. Thanks to
everyone who came out and taught
the children, the ladies for their
cookies and freshie afterwards and all
who donated articles for crafts.
Thanks again to everyone.
Mrs. Anna Elberhardt had a sale on
Saturday which was well attended..
Anna is moving to Strathroy. We wish
-her every success in • her new '
townhouse where she will be living.
We will all miss you Anna and Good
Luck.

Shipka residents at
Christian Retreat Camp

Ferman and Leota Snyder, and
members of the Vincent family here,
have been attending some sessions at
the Church of God summer camp,
held at Maple ' Grove Christian
Retreat Centre, at Thamesford, from
August 17 to 23.
The adults have Bible study. lec-
tures with special speakers, rest.
recreation and singing.
The children learn crafts, have pool
swimming, Bible stories, campfires
and sing songs.
Mike and Donna Yarrow, of Win-
nipeg Manitoba, arrived here last
Thursday to visit Donna's parents,
Ken and Ortha Baker and other fami-
ly relatives, and to attend their friend
Erica Frieter's wedding on August 29.
Betty Shelley, Campbellford, Karen
Richard, Ryan and Rachel, Windsor,
spent a few holidays with Don and
Mabel Fraser. Betty and Karen are
Don's daughters.
Friends and relatives visiting with
Hugh and I Thursday night were,
Hazel Corbett, Hensall, Les and Mar-
jorie Adams and Hedy Devine, Ex-
eter, Oscar and Laura Miller, Melvin
and Gertie Stade and Grace Miller, all
of Dashwood and area. Blanche Chap-
man, London, Ed Turnbull, Zurich.
The occasion was celebrating
Hugh's birthday. In the social time we
played progressive euchre. Men's
high - Les Adams, ladies high - Hedy
Devine, low score - Hazel Corbett.
Lunch refreshments with cake and
ice cream, and a time of visiting en-
joyed by all.
Our bantam hen and rooster hatch-
ed 10 chicks around July 1st. When the
babies were about one week old, their
mother was accidentally killed. We
thought the baby banties would not
survive without their mother.
Their first night alone they huddl-
ed under the root pulper and their
rooster father flew up to roost on a
high beam in the barn. The chicks
peeped and cried and the father flew
down and cuddled them under his
wings and has done so ever since.
(Will wonders never cease?
He leads them around outside, dai-
ly, calling to them when he finds some
food. At this date of writing all 10 are
alive and well, and feathered out now.
In our more than 40 years of -farm-
ing we have not seen an incident like
• this.

The Women's Institutes of Ontario Rader, Dashwood and Eleanor
are 90 years old this year. To Roeszler, Crediton were the closest in

About ninety members sat down to
a picnic lunch. The calve used for
dessert was decorated with the
special crest used by the Ontario
members to celebrate this special
year. A variety of sports were con-
ducted following the lunch.
Erlma Keller, Hurondale and
Isabelle King, Crediton had the most
lace on their slip. Verna Becker,
Dashwood had the most change in her
purse. The longest earring was worn
nearest to the picnic date was Lois.
Hodgins,' Crediton. Kay Morley,
Elimville guessed the closest in
"What's in the box". Lydia Regier
had the most grandchildren.
Bernice Cooper won both the guess-
ing contests - in how many jelly
bellies and how many gem candies..
Personals -
The members of the manse com-
mittee are reminding everyone to
save and turn in to the committee
their grocery tapes from Darlings
IGA and ValuMart.

Miss'Joanne Hodgen has moved in-
to her home in Mitchell. She will be
teaching in Mitchell when school
commences,
Miss Doris Elford, Mrs. Ross
Hodgert and Mrs. Bill Rohde attend-
ed the Kirkton horticulture Flower
Show on Tuesday evening at Kirkton
Woodham Community Centre. There
was a good showing of flowers.
Miss Jean Coward, Mr. and Mrs.
Ray Cottle, Mr. Tom Yellow of x-
eter, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rohde were
guests at the Sctivefs-Bennewies

wedding on Saturday evening at the
Queens Park island Stratford and
also the reception at the Brodhagen
Community Centre, Brodhagen. Con-
gratulations Steve and Vicki.
• Mr. and Mrs. Don Richardson,
Erin, Brian and Lori attended the
Richardson family reunion held at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Vic Richardson
of Burford.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rohde visited
with Mrs. Marguerite Gibson and Mr.
and Mrs. -Jerry Gibson at the latter's
trailerat Shady Pines Trailer Park
near Ailsa Craig.
