Stanley mites

-The Stanley Mixed. Miles played
their last league game against
Bayfield Friday night and won with
a score of 24-21. 11 was the most ex-
citing game of the season for both the
parents and the team.
• The Mixed Mites tournament was
held in Clinton on Saturday August 22.
Stanley played Bayfield and lost with
a score of 10-5. This was their• first Toss
for the whole season. Stanley then
played Goderich Township and won
16-1. This win gave Stanley the "13"
Championship. Way to go team'
Bayfield took the "A" championship
over Clinton.
The Mites would like to thank their
• coaches, Helen Faber and Elaine
Stephenson for their. super coaching
all season. Also thanks to Glen Ilayter
for coaching the tournament.
The Stanley- Peewee girls had their
tournament at Stanley ball park on
Friday August 21 and Saturday -
August 22. Clinton took the "A" cham-
pionship over Goderich three With a
score of t;-5.
Stanley girls took "B" champion-
ship over Goderich 1 with a score of
21.8. Way to go girls: Jean Horton and
Don Rathwell would like to thank the
umpires and anyone who helped in
-any way in this tournament.
The -Stanley Pee wee boys had their
tournament in Goderich Township on
Friday and Saturday also. They won
their first two games and were put out
in their third game. Good try boys'
The Stanley Bantam Girls played
their tournament in Goderich and
won the "B" Championship also. Ex-
cellent games girls'
The Squirt Boys tournament is in
Colbourne.Township Friday August

Since the ball season -is corning to
an end the Annual Family Day is at
the Stanley 131111 Park on Sunday
August 30. All the teams play their
parents and a pot luck supper will
follow al 5::30. The Ball Schedule is:

At 4::30 there is to be an opening
ceremony- of the new playground

attended a surprise 25th wedding an-
niversary party for Lola and Gerry
Brubacher t Wilfred's daughter and
son-in-law t in Waterloo on Saturday
August 15. •

Emely Coultis of Varna won
several prizes in the special commer-
cial features. baking and canning sec-
tions at the Bayfield Fair on Satur-
day. The C:oultis children also won
several prizes in the youth section.

Thirty-five members of the Chessell
family gathered at the home of Bill
and Mary Chessell on Sunday. One of
the highlights for the children was
trailer rides behind Grandpa Bill's
tractor. Next year the reunion will he
held at Bruce and Nancy Norris.'s
near Cromarty.
Dorothy Ostrom's son and
daughter-in-law. David and Sandy
Ostrom and -grandchildren Tim and
Kristi, were visiting with Dorothy for
three days. They were heading to
their home in Lynchburg, Virginia on
Monday. Dorothy's daughter Ann
Neilson is now visiting with her. She
has come to accompany her son Mark
back to their new home in Montreal.

Hensall and district horticultural society
Flower show next week
The second Annual Flower Show of
the Hensall and District Horticultural
Society wilt be held at the Hensall
United Church on Wednesday
September 2. Come and enjoy a walk
down the "Garden Path" from 2-4
p.m. and 7-9 p.m. There will be a tea
room so bring your friends and spend
an hour or so.
Nursery School openings
The Hensall and District Co-
operative Nursery School has some
openings left in their morning or
afternoon sessions, on Tuesdays and
Thursdays from September through
June.
A qualified "Early Childhood
Education" teacher will lead your
pre-schoolers, aged 2-5, through a
varied and innovative program. The
bright and beautifully equipped facili-
ty is located upstairs at the Hensall
Arena.
To help your child enjoy and grow
-with field trips. special occasions and

drop in on any session and see for
yourself.
In contest
Last Monday, August 17, Victoria
Bisback of Hensall performed for the
preliminary judging of the
southwestern Ontario Junior Talent

Show at the Western Fair Grounds.
She sang the song "Tomorrow" from
the hit show "Annie".
Unfortunately. Victoria was not
among the small group of semi-
finalists chosen to appear at the
Western Fair next month. The effort
displayed by this young lady deserves
to be admired and the experience was
well worth it despite not winning. Vic-
toria is the daughter of Peter and
Janis Bisback.
Personals
Mrs. Mary Roobol attended two
bridal showers and an open house
recently in honour of her -grand-
daughter, Lynne Dodds. On Saturday
Mary and Sim Roobol attended the,
marriage of Lynne to Mr. Ron
Godkin. The wedding took place at
Winthrop United Church with a din-
ner and reception afterwards at the
Seaforth Community Centre.
Mrs. Ross MacMillan, Waterloo.
spent last Friday with her mother.
Mrs. Laird Mickle and brother
Charles returned with her to the home
of his brother and sister-in-law near
Ayr after spending almost five weeks -
with his mother in Hensall.

Thursday, August 27, there will not be •
shuffling at the, Arena. However.
weather permitting. the group will
shuffle at the outside courts behind
the Senior Citizen hall at 1::30 p.m.
The ltappy Pushers will meet as
usual September 3 at the Arena.
Fifty-four people turned out on
Thursday to "Gobble It tip" at the
Hensall Branch Library. The children
were delighted to hear such delicacies
as "Alligator Pie" and "1lippo Sand
wich". They enjoyed visits from Eat -
it -all Elaine and The old lardy- Who
Swallowed a Fly. 'These guests and
