This means that fewer channels are available for the dish owner. In the past few months this situa- tion has changed and a solution is available for present dish owenrs and those consumers who are con- templating the purchase of a satellite dish. It is now possible to purchase a decoder which will unscramble many of the scrambled services. This descrambler or decoder is manufactured by General In- strumentsin the U.S. and is available to Canadian consumers. In the U.S. this decoder could be purchased and for each service subscribed to on a monthly or yearly basis this device would unscramble the signal. Supposedly foolproof, it did not take long before someone discovered a way to beat the system ; 'chips soon appeared for sale all over U.S. When the original chip was replaced with the super chip, it was possible to subscribe to only one ser - vie and have the others unscrambled as well by the altered Videocipher as this decoder was called. As a result General Instruments made some alterations and came out with a new version catiea "Videocipher 2100" but alas, it was not long before this new model was again able to have the super chip in- stalled. Once again, the foolproof decoder had its code broken. In the U.S. installing a super chip was against federal law and as such is illegal as it is a federal crime. This is the situation in the United States, now lets return to Canada. In short, it is possible in Canada to purchase the "Videocipher II" with the altered chip to {tnscramble all Videocipher signals. The result is that GRADUATES Jacob and Iva lagerwerf are pleased to an- nounce the graduation of their youngest daughter, Karen, at Lambton College, June 13, 1987 from the Parks and Operational Services program. Karen is now residing in Sarnia and is employed with the St. Clair Parkway. Honour couple with surprise By MRS. 'It would appear that"- the Videocipher System has become the standard for channels who plan to scramble in the future. So once more dish owners are able to watch the pro- grams of their choice. Another development for those con- templating the purchase of satellite dishes is a new design just on the market. This dish utilizing space age technology has come with a digh design of eight foot with picture quali- ty comparable to that of most ten foot dishes. Constructed of a new com- pound, it has_been tested and found to be highly resistant to our weather conditions in Canada. In addition, it presents a pleasing environmental appearance. As a result of computer design, it is the newest development in satellite dishes.
