year by the village.
In other business, council endorsed
opposition MPP Andy Brandt's re-
quest that the village call upon the
Provincial Government to introduce
legislation to make owners of vi ious
dogs immediately responsible for
their dogs actions. Reeve Bob Fisher
commented that he did not see any
problem with supporting Brandt's re-
quest "if they (vicious dogs) are in-
deed a hazard."
The township of Beckwith's request
of support for their petition to the Pro-
vincial Government to remove the
sales tax from fire protection equip-
ment won a quick approval from
Council. Zurich will be added to the
lengthy list of municipalities who
view the tax as unnecessary and
unfair.
In recognition of the sparse agen-
da for the meeting, Bob Fisher mo-
tioned to the Dress tit the back of the
room, "If you want to pat us on the
back, we raised our taxes only one
mill this year."

Discuss Meals on Wheels
Bev Brown from the Town and
Country Homemakers, appeared
before the Stanley Township Council
Tuesday August 11 to discuss the
possibility of extending the service of
Meals on Wheels. Beginning today,
Wednesday, meals will be provided to
the elderly and disabled in Bayfield,
but Brown is also eager to serve rural
areas if enough interest is expressed.
Anyone who feels he or she is eligible,
or knows of someone eligible, should
contact the township office.
Council approved two loans totall-
ing $17,000 to property owners for use
in the continuing battle for shoreline
protection along Lake Huron.
The Township of Beckwith's re-
quest for support to their petition to
the Provincial Government was ap-
proved. Beckwith wishes to see the
sales tax on fire protection equipment
removed.
Cost estimates for hydrogeological
studies on Stanley's landfill sites have
been requested by Council.
The Township Office has welcom-
ed to their ranks Tom Maier, a
trainee under the Ontario Municipal
Training Program.
No Council meeting will be held on
August 25 due to a lack of business
and because an Ontario Municipal
Board hearing is scheduled that day.
