HomeMy WebLinkAboutTimes-Advocate, 1987-08-12, Page 25Quebec youth visit Varna By Joan Beierling Krista McAsh and Genevieve Cote of Noranda Quebec were on an French Exchange visit. Genevieve Cote spent two weeks with Krista McAsh and her family in Varna. While there she toured the Children's Museum in London with Krista and her family. They also went to Bingeman Park in Kitchener and they toured the salt mine in Goderich and they went shopping. Genevieve's parents brought her to Varna and Krista's parents met Genevieve and her parents at Bracebridge when it was time for her to go back. They spent the day at San- ta's Village and then Krista went back to Quebec with Genevieve's and her parents to begin her two week stay. While Krista was there she toured the copper mine in Noranda. She saw two houses while there. The other one which was in Villa Marie was 150 years old and it was the original house. Krista also saw the first boat to carry logs in water named the T.E. Draper. It was quite and interesting trip for Krista. Krista's parents drove to Quebec to pick her up. Personals Wayne and Joan Beierling and fam- ly enjoyed a short trip away. They spent a night camping at Miller Lake with friends, then boarded the Chi- Chi-Maun and drove back through Northern Ontario stopping at Santa's Village in Bracebridge. Rev. Sam Parker spent last week at Camp Menestung, north of Goderich. This week he will be help- ing with Bible School in Brucefield. Remember, our Varna -Goshen An- nual Lakeside service at 11 a.m. at Stanley Park with a pot blessing to follow on August' 16. Sunday August 23 there is a combined service at Goshen at 10:30 a.m. It will be a com- munion service. Sunday August 30 is a vacation Sunday. Ball news There was a Co-ed ball tournament August eighth and ninth at the Stanley Ball Park. The "A" final went to a Clinton team called The Hit and Miss, over a Bayfield team by a score of 13-5.. Most valuable male player for the winning team was Cecil Fields and the female was Jill Jervis. The Hill and the Hillettes played the Jems and Jewels from Clinton and had a very close game. The Hill an Hillettes won this championship with a score of 4-3. The most valuable players on this team were Randy Keys and Julie Falconer. The upcoming games are Stanley Squirt boys vs Bayfield on Thursday August 13 at 7 p.m. Bantam girls vs Goderich Township on Thursday August 13 at 7 p.m. Stanley hard ball boys vs Seaforth Friday August 14 at 8 p.m. Hill and Hill vs Dashwood Mon- day August 17 at 7 p.m. Remember to come out and cheer our players on. McLaren clan The annual McLaren reunion was held at. McNaughton Park Monday August 3 with 65 present. A wonderful getting re -acquainted time was had by all. Families were there from Philadelphia, Dayton Ohio, Ottawa, Vancouver, Hamilton, London, Monkton, Bradford, Guelph, Clinton, Goderich. Walton, Grand Bend, Southcott Pines, Huron Park, Exeter and district. They had a pre -60th Anniversary cake for Keith and Ruth McLaren, which will be February 29, 1988, as some could not be here then. So hope to have many more get-togethers in the future.
