Exeter put forward a good effort in their 5-3 loss to Lucan, turning in some notable defensive play. First baseman Ryan Lindenfield picked up a single in the middle of the game and threw it to home plate where Jason Heywood tagged the Lucan runner in time. Heywood then threw the ball to second base where the runner was tagged out for a double play. Genttner who knocked out a triple at one point in the game, was starting pitcher for Exeter. He was replaced mid -way through by Tinney. Tinney struck our eight of the 12 batters he faced in relief. Schwindt went two -for -three at the plate, giving Exeter some much need- ed fire-power. Genttner and Tinney were largely responsible for Exeter's 12-4 romp over Seaforth, picking off five Seaforth base runners as they at- tempted to lead off. Tinney also had a productive day at bat, going four -for -four with a tiple, two doubles and a single. • Mike Kingma, Jim Ahrens and Steve DuBarry picked up two hits each in four attempts at bat. The win gives Exeter bantams a regular season record of eight wins, nine losses and two ties. Next week, the bantams will launch into the WOBOA playdowns when they come up against first place Lucan in a best -of -three series. Atom girls take win, tie Exeter Atom girls turned in good results. In a pair of games in minor bail action last week, coming up -with a 7-7 tie against Hibbert and then win- ning 22-18 in a battle with Centralia. The win and tie increase the girls record to three wins, six losses and one tie. Exeter Atoms had a strong outing August 3 when they fought to a 7-7 tie with Hibbert. The pitching and catching duo of Jana Webster and Jeri -Lee Davis ws3 a deciding, factor in the effort. Webster struck out nine batters, go- ing the distance for Exeter. She also went three -for -three at the plate with a walk and two hits. Davis went two -for -three at bat, managing a walk and a home run and scoring twice. In their high -scoring outing against Centralia, Webster struck out 10 bat- ters as starting pitcher before she was relieved by Toni Dejong. Webster also picked up a home run JMR SUNDEVILS WIN — Remaining undefeated throughout the Shipka Rookies' slow -pitch tournament on the weekend were the JMR Sundevils. Back left, Clare Martene, Rick Govers, Kevin Dutot, Ken Govers, Tom Murch and Greg Parsons. Front, Rick Parsons, Pete Dearing, Preston Dearing (M.V.P.), Dave Cruikshank and Cliff Hicks. Missing was Paul Masse. First round completed in ladies slo-pitch The first round of games have been completed by the Ladies Slowpitch teams with each of the 12 teams in the League having met all opposing teams once. Standings at the end of this twelve week period are as follows: Downtown Dollies, Exeter Inn- dianettes, South Huron Hospital, Albatross An: els, Bi: 0 Sockettes HAPPY PEE WEES — This South Hibbert team took the 'A' championship of the Usborne OBA pee wee tourney held on the weekend in Cromarty. Front row left; Jamie Brock, Scott (Yogy) Kemp, Steve Dearing, Rick Ryan, Tim Dow,Greg Dalrymple andSteve Pullman. Hibbert downed Usborne Pee wees 12-7 in the final game. Centralia won the 'B' division, beating Hensall 13-11. Usborne Pee wee girls dumped Exeter II 18-9 to capture the girls 'A' title while Exeter III handed Usborne II a 19-18 loss to take the 'B' trophy. Twelve teams see soccer action 0 It was a busy week in Exeter soc- cer With eleven of Exeter's twelve teams seeing action. Only the Bantam team had a week off. • In squirt action, Adam Jones and Jacob Bruxer played an excellent game and Daryl Parsons scored the only goal as Exeter I continued to col- lect the points. Grand Bend was a very tough op- ponent and the 1-1 score was a good result for everyone. Exeter II also had to settle fora tie. Trevor Boersma was once again outstanding for Exeter.H when they played front -running Lucan III to a 1-1 tie. Lucan III, Exeter I and Exeter II are now tied for second place with on- ly three games left in the season. Luke Sims scored a hattrick and Ryan Rutledge scored once. Shawn Lynn had an outstanding game for Exeter III. Exeter IV won their second game in a row when Jeff McLean scored two goals to lead his team to a 2-0 win over Arva: Trevor Skinner and Ben Glavin per- formed well for Exeter IV. In Atom play, Exeter I played Ex- eter II. Exeter I took an early 1-0 lead but Exeter II was unwilling to give up. Exeter II's defence played well with Rob Lynn and Mat Sims leading the way. It was not until late in the game that Exeter I scored three more times to put the game out of reach; Bryon Ellerington played well in goal for E. iter I making several great save . • Chris ' iacDonald and Marty Debruyn cored twice each for Exeter I. In M squito play, Exeter I had no trout,' : staying in first place in the sten, ings with a 10-1 win over Ilderton. As usual, Gavin Snell had an ex- cellent game for Exeter I. Goals were scored by Danny Martens, Jamie Dougall, David Morlock, Eugene Boersma, Richie Dobson (2), Sivichay Sengkhounmany (2) and Marty Debruyn (2). Exeter II travelled to Nairn and had trouble with a very stubborn Nairn I team. After a close and ex- citing game it was Exeter that came out victorious. Ken and Glen Hines played an ex- cellent game for Exeter II. Joel Campbell with three goals and Ryan Stuart with one took care of the scor- ing for Exeter in the 4-3 win. In Pee Wee action, Exeter I played St. Columban, the second place team. With the whole team playing well, Ex- eter I took the play to St. Columban and built a 3-1 lead and an upset look- ed to be in the making. However the last word belonged to St. Columban. They scored three unanswered goals to turn the game in their favour by a 4-3 score. Coach Ernie Szabo was very pleas- ed by the total team effort of his charges. Scoring for Exeter I were Peter McAllister, Ron Dube and Shawn McFalls. Exeter II played at home against Bryanston. Coach Lorne Rideout had his players concentrate on passing last and they responded by putting together some beautiful passing combinations. Dan Vanderlaan and Sisavay Sengkhounmany played particularly well. Brett Rideout with two Geoff Sanders and Dean Pfaff took care of the scoring. Dean Pfaff and Eugene Hartman shared the shutout. In girls play, the Exeter girls under 11 team travelled to Strathroy and played their best game of the season. The girls tried hard but were not able to beat the Strathroy goalie. A lone goal by Strathroy decided the game 1-0 in favour of Strathroy. • Sundowners are in the first six posi- tions while Good Times, Dan Brie Darlins', Huron Park Devils, Electro- Lites, Cheers and the Beaters have earned sports on the 'B' side. The final games of the season will have the top six teams meeting each other once more and the seven to twelfth place teams squaring off. The first games of this series were played Thursday. On the 'A' side, win- ners were South Huron Hospital and Sundowners with the Downtown Dollies and Exeter Inn-dianettes play- ing to a tie. The 'B' side winners were Good Times, Huron Park Devils and Cheers. Standings following this series will determine the first round of games for the playoff tournament to be held September 11 and 12 at the Exeter Rec Centre diamonds. Juvenile girls Exeter Juvenile girls handed Lucan an 18-3 rout Tuesday (August 4) to finish their regular season play with a record of 12 wins and two losses. Lee O'Rourke pounded out home runs in both the second and third inn- ings for two RBI, leading her team at bat. Starting pitcher Kelly Whiteford also hit a home run in the third, bring- ing in another run with her.
