Texasscramble at Ironwood Ironwood Ladies' and Men's Club got together for a Texas Scramble on Saturday. The winning team of Janet Wedlake, Sherry Gilfillan, Don Gif- ford and -Bill Mickle shot 33 but had to win a putt -off to capture the trophy. Also finishing at 33 was the team of Jo-anne Dinney, Carolyn Gilfillan, Mike Brintnell and Dave Boltzmann. Four teams were tied at 34 and the order of finish was decided by a countback. Third place honours went to the team of Viv Cowan, Hazel Beaver, DRIVING IT HOME Jim Ahrens gets a good start at the Ironwood Junior tournament held Friday .morning at the local golf course. Lawn bowlers do well Exeter lawn bowlers took advan- tage ofsunny skies this week to pro- duce some impressive results on the local bowling greens. Of the 25,bowlers who took part in the July 21 jitney, Sam Bower and Er- nie Ross dominated the men's divi- sion, picking up two wins and a score of 23 each. They were followed by Bill Rogerson who managed onewin, one tie and a score of 22. In the ladies division, Edna Caldwell led the pack with two wins and a score of 28 plus one. Caldwell, was followed by Gertrude Hamilton who picked up one win. one tie and a score of 22. LilaSmith and Marion Dearing tied for third spot with one win and a score of 20 each. Exeter hosted the Mitchell bowling club Thursday when 48 bowlers played eight greens. Marguerite Davis and Betty Dow tied for first spot in theladies division with two wins and a score of 29 plus one each. They were followed by Margaret Robinson who accumulated two wins and a score of 26. Larry Rieck'dominated the men's division. picking up two wins and a score of 28 plus one. Ile was followed by Ray 'Smith with two wins and a score of 26 and Peter McFalls who managed two wins and a score of 25. The competition was followed by a lunch provided by the Exeter Social Committee. Twenty-four bowlers took part in a jitney Saturday when Sam Bower again led the men's division with two wins and a score of 22. He was follow- ed -by Mark Russell who managed two wins and a score of 20. Ray Smith rounded out the top three men with one win, one tie and a score of 25. In the ladies division, it was Elizabeth Lamport who dominated the play. She led the ladies with two wins and a score of 18 while Stella Taylor followed closely with one win, one tie and a score of 20. Greta Richards rounded out the top three ladies with one win and a score of 23. Invitational Tourney Entries from Wingham, Seaforth, Goderich, Mitchell, Exeter and Lon- don took part in the Exeter Ladies In- vitational pairs tournament held Saturday at the Exeter bowling greens. Exeter failed to place in the tourna- ment which was largely dominated by teams from the London Fairmont club. National Trust donated gift packages to all entries. I1 - Andy DeBoer and Randy Gilfillan. Finishing in fourth were Marlene Parsons, Karen Gaul, Bob Dinney and Bill Steciuk. A fine shot on number four by Janet Wedlake won her a putter for closest to the pin. An equally fine shot on number nine: won Brad Murray closest to the pin.. Dinney's Furniture and Air Canada with their generous prizes insured this events succes. - - Because the event was a succes, organizers may turn the Mixed Texas Scramble into an annual event. t. Ironwood ladies, men's clubs Monday night ladies club took a break from their regular flights and had a "lucky draw night". The evening was sponsored by Lit- tle People and Rowe Plumbing and Electric. The winners were, Patty Coleman,. Liz Taylor-, Marion Rider. Karen Bowerman, Marg Butler, Lucie Ser- ratore, Dorcas Wein and Edith Boyle. There was a three-way tie for the most sand trap shots. The unfortunate winners were Anne Prout, Theresa McCann and. Elaine Skinner. The only skins winner was Hazel Beaver on number five. Next week a "pot luck" will be held Thursday ( August 61 because of the holiday. Exeter and Seaforfh ladies will be our guests, so please bring a little ex- tra food. The night will be sponsored by Se- cond Look and Mane Event. Tuesday night in the Ironwood Men's Club; had scores prevailed in all flights. Winners in 'A' flight were Dave Holtzmann with a 36 for low gross and Don Cowan with a low net of 33. Bill-Farquhar's fine score of 37 won 'B' flight with Blair Hearn second at 39. Low net winners were F'armer's 30 and Al Taylor's 32. Capturing 'C' flight honours was Robert Drummond's 40. Larry Brosel was next with 42. Ken Varley and Bill Gilfillan were both net winers with 31. 'D' flight champs in the low gross category were Wilmer Ferguson at 44 and Lee Webber at 46. Low net win- ner was Peter Czypyha with Dave Frayne close by. Closest to the pin winners were Jamie Gaul and Will Chisholm. Ironwood men were sponsored this week by hfcGuinnis. Next week Don .
