planned for Dashwood
Everything is in readiness for the
16th annual Friedsburg Days in
Dashwood this weekend. A full line of
activities aimed at all ages from the
very young to the senior citizen.
The three day event gets underway
Friday night at 6 p.m. when the gates
to the Community Centre and the food
booths open.
At 7 p.m., all area youngsters are
invited to participate in a kids balloon
liftoff for the third consecutive year.
This will be followed later by a Kar-
ma puppet show in the Community
Centre and dancing to the music of
Eureka in the paJilion.
The .Dashwood baseball' diamond
located at the south end of the police
village will be the site of a horse show
at 9 a.rn.. Saturday and one hour later
a craft show begins at the Communi-
ty Centre.
Parade judges will be" at the ball
diamond from 10:30 to- 11:30 a.m.
choosing the best floats and entries in
the super parade. The theme this year
is The Best Things in Life are'. At
noon the' parade will leave the
grounds and head on a tour of most
streets in Dashwood ending at the
Community Centre'.
One of the highlights Saturday will
begin at 1:30 p.m. with judging and
the selection of Miss Friedsburg Days

for 1987. Nine area girls are com-
peting for the honour won last year by
Connie Desjardine.
'Visitors will be treated to two shows
by Scott Coolman BMX bike team and
. skate boarders. These shows go on a
side street adjacent to the Communi-
ty Centre at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
A wide range of sporting events get
-rolling at 2 p.m. These include the
crosscut sawing contest, arm wrestl-
ing and adult tug-of-war.
Registration for arm wrestling
competitors goes at 2:30 p.m. and en-
trants are confined to a 20 mile radius
of Dashwood.
Sports convener John Becker said
Monday he expects six to eight teams
in the men's division of the tug-of-war
contest and at least four squad for the
ladies division.
Last year's champion Red Power
men's team are expected back as are
the Throw-Togethers who won in the
ladies section..
Anyone wishing to enter or get fur-
ther information on the sports events
should call John Becker at 237-3628.
Following the tug-of-war finals at
about 5 p.m. a beef barbecue will be
held. Advance tickets only are being
sold.
Saturday evening at 8 p.m. the
Dashwood seniors are sponsoring a
fun euchre in the Community Centre
and the same time visitors may dance
to the music of the Old Acquaintance
in the pavilion. This is a German
band.
Sunday morning, former CFPL
talent show host Perrie Mitchell will
be the guest- speaker at an in-
terdenominational church service in
the pavilion at 10:30 a.m. Providing
the music will be the South Huron
Community Choir with Ann Marie
Hoffman as soloist and Teresa Van
Raay as director.
Helicopter rides will be available
all day Saturday and the food conces-
sions featuring a variety of German
foods will be open all weekend.
The weekend concludes with a pan-
cake and sausage breakfast following
the church service.
All proceeds from this year's
Friedsburg Days will be channeled to
community betterment.
