gather for barbeeue

Dashwood and Area Business
Association held their regular
meeting July 13 in the form of a
barbecue at the pavilion. A short
business meeting was presided over
by Pres. Peter Becker.
The Interdenominational Worship
Service will be held at the Dashwood
Community Centre pavilion August 2
at 10:30 a.m. Guest speaker will be
Perrie Mitchell, former C.F.P.L.
talent show host. (Remember the big
St. Bernard dog "Peaches").

Monday and Tuesdsay, and on
Wednesday and Thursday hosted 12
youths accompanied by Vicar Tom
and Doreen Korcok, Plymouth, Wis.
from St. John Lutheran Church. We
welcome them on their first visit to
Dashwood.
Reunion
' The Gottleib and Merner reunion
was held at the Blackbush school
house Sunday with a large attendance
from Detroit, Ohio, London, Kit-
chener, Exeter, Zurich and
Dashwood.
Mr. John Eagleson, son of Gordon
and Margaret Eagleson, Southamp-
ton, was married July 11. Residents
from this area attending were Ralph
and Mary Weber, Diane Eagleson,
Aldine Wolfe, Charlie and Marie
Tieman and Harry and Maud Hoff-
man who celerated their wedding
anniversary.
Wilmer and Martha Pfaff attended
the wedding of their niece Julie Pfaff
to Jim Brintnell at St. Patricks
Church, Lucan.
Mrs. Dorothy Whetter Toronto,
visited her sister Erma Wein who is
a patient in South Huron Hospital.

Meet new Saintsbury rector

The ladies and children of St.
Patrick's Church gathered. Tuesday
afternoon at the home of Hazel Davis
to meet our new rector, Mrs. Wheeler
of London. All enjoyed a pot luck lun-
cheon and a pleasant afternoon. .
Mrs. Helen MacDonald and 1 were
lunch guests with Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Kooy, Tuesday.
Harry Carroll entertained relatives
from Detroit on the weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Davis
visited their granddaughter Amy
Jean Love, Varna. She is a patient in
Clinton General Hospital following
surgery.
I attended a combined birthday din-
ner for Leann, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Peter Sovereign, Lucan and her
aunt Mrs. Mary Kooy, Centralia at
the home of Peter and Joyce
Sovereign, Lucan.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dobbs, Mr. and
Mrs. Hugh Davis attended a reception
for Terry Clifford at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Mert Culbert, Thursday
evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross McFalls were
Friday night dinner guests with Mr.
and Mrs. Hugh Davis. Saturday the
Davis' accompanied by Mr. and Mrs.
Michael Davis attended the ball game
in Toronto. Crystal and Harley Davis

Staffs WI enjoy car tour

An enjoyable car tour to Millbank
and Milverton, preceded by lunch at
the Red Maples in Monkton,
highlighted the June, meeting of the
Staffa Women's Institute.
At Millbank, 14 members and three
visitors enjoyed a stop at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Urias Martin, where
Mrs. Martin displayed and told about
her many lovely barnboard paintings
and Mr. Martin displayed his wood-
working skills in furniture, lamps and
childrens toys. Before the Institute
departed Mrs. Martin served
refreshments.
Then everyone was off to Milverton
where we visited the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Sandy Jack. Here we enjoyed
viewing their collection of bells,
harness accessories and other anti-

ques. At both homes Esther Smale ex-
pressed our appreciation for their
hospitality.
A short business meeting was held
at the Maples following lunch, with
Roberta Templeman presiding. Staf-
fa Women's Institute will be sponsor-
ing Tammy Parsons in the Queen of
the Fair competition at Mitchell Fair,
and Grace Kerslake volunteered to
look after getting the sash, flowers
etc. and introducing Tammy.
Esther Smale, Doris Miller and
Marjorie Drake volunteered to set up
the Institute display at Mitchell Fair.
Anyone having any articles to con-
tribute is asked to bring them to the
July meeting.
Margaret Kemp reviewed the plans
for the July meeting which is to be
held at the Mitchell Nursing Home on
July 29, when we will visit with the
residents and serve lunch.
Verle Mahon will purchase gifts for
two previous 4-H leaders to be
' presented at the September meeting.
Several members volunteered their
homes for billeting at the London
IArea Convention in October.
Thanks to our Tweedsmuir
Curators, Esther Smale and Edna
Burchill for planning a most en-
joyable outing.

the grade eight graduation
ceremonies held at Upper Thames
Elementary school recently. As well
as her parents Helen and Lorne Fell,
her grandparents Edna and Sam
Horn, Atwood, were also in
attendance.
Roger Fell has returned home from
a 4-11 trip to Indiana, where he spent
a week in Cass County.
Bev, Carrah, Cain and Cohen
Templeman spent a few days this
past week visiting with Carol Stewart
and Jane Robinson, Kitchener.
Laurie and Helen McKellar hosted
the McKellar family reunion at their
home on Saturday June 27. Fifty
relatives enjoyed an afternoon of ball
followed by a pot luck supper and a
camp fire at night.
Baby shower
at Centralia

Mr. and Mrs. Sam Reid and their
three daughters from Newfoundland
spent the past week visiting with
Sam's sister Mr. and Mrs. Percy
Knee and family.
Debra and Sarah Jane Tilley held
a surprise baby shower for Debbie
Tilley of Huron Park Sunday after-
noon. Guests were present from Sar-
nia, London, Grand Bend and Cen-
tralia area to surprise the mother -to -
be.
Thursday dinner guests with us
were Helen MacDonald, Mary Davis
and Bonnie KOoy. Bonnie has ac-
cepted a position as sports director at
a campground near Grand Bend for
the summer.
When the senior citizens met July
6 at Keegan's Inn prize winners were
Marian Noels, Margaret Carter,
Lydia Regier, Harry Noels, Nelson
Squires and Joe Carter. The next
gathering will be July 20 at 2:30.
Tom and 4 had one round of celebra-
tions during the weekend to honour
my birthday. On Friday we were
guests of Howard Dolan to dinner at
Port Elgin. On Saturday our niece
Jean Clark of Dunnville arrived.
Many friends and neighbours came
Saturday.
Betty Sutherland was a luncheon
guest Sunday noon and Sunday after-
noon we were guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Peter Sovereign, Lucan when they
entertained about 20 relatives and
friends to dinner for Leanne
Sovereign's and my birthday so an en-
joyable weekend even though the heat
was terrific.
Brad Tate and Pauline Overholt,
London 'visited Sunday with Pauline's
mons Von Overholt. •
Courtney and Katie Scarlett spent
Saturday at Marineland and Niagara
Falls.
MISS Heather MacDougall. Strat-
ford visited Thursday with Mrs. Bob
MacGillivray and girls.
