Buses carry nearly 600 poople to Exhibition Stadium
Everything but the traffic and the
12th -inning went well during Ellison
. Travel's annual bus trip to Exhibition
Stadium to see Toronto Blue Jays
play New York Yankees Wednesday
afternoon.
The trip was co-ordinated in con-
junction with Huron County day
which was celebrated on -Canada day -
as the Jays and Yankees met for the
last game of a three -game series.
Four buses and two vans filled to
capacity left from Wingham. Clinton
and Exeter Wednesday morning, car-
rying,close to 600 people from Huron
County to Toronto. There they joined
a record crowd of 47,828 to watch the
Jays lose a 6-1 decision in extra
innings.

Ellison Travel said Thursday that she
was happy with the out -come of .the
trip.
"It went really well," Rowe said. "I
don't think we could have picked a
better day."
Rowe noted that the only problem

this year. However, as time went on,
they became concerned about selling -
them. They returned 400 tickets but
sold out the remaining 600 long before
tickets requests stopped coming in.
Next year" the agency plans to
reserve 1,000 tickets for the event:
The tickets, which included return
bus fare on buses supplied by Ellison
Travel, cost .$32(10 for ,students and -
$35.00 for adults.

Royals get violent
win against Poplar Hill
The Exeter Royals split two games
this week to run their record to eight
wins and seven losses in the
Southwestern fastball league.
Irish 7 Royals 0
Tuesday the Royals travelled to
Lucan and absorbed a 7-0 loss to the
Irish. The Irish scored a run in the
first, two in the second, third and
fourth to take an easy win.
Fred Frank tossed a three hitter for
the Irish to pick up the win. Brian
Hodgins took the loss with Dan
Heywood finishing up.
Thursday Poplar -Hill was in town
and despite leading 4-1 in the sixth
were unable to finish the game as
they ran short of players after Ewe
ejections.
Starting pitcher Steve Virag was

tossed from the game after they il-
legally made a substitution and on the
first play after the argument Glen
Thompson singled and came in hard
at second base.
The Poplar Hill player then threw
the ball at Thompson and they were
both ejected giving the game to the
Royals. .
Until that point the Royals had
managed just one hit off of Virag. Dan
Heywood .tossed the game for the
Royals giving up four Poplar Hill hits.
Brian Horner had a single for the
Royals.
The Royals travel to Lucan Tues-
day to - play the White Sox while
Thursday they host Nairn. This
weekend they travel to Tara to play
in a tournament.

Exeter 11 stays close to first
plate with win over Ilderton
Exeter iI stayed in the race for first
place when they defeated Merton by
al -2 score. The Exeter kids were full
valve for their win. •
Trevor Boetsma led the scoring at-
tack with a two goal preformance.
Geoff Mayer and David Marshall
scored single goals.
Playing well for Exeter iI were Jeff
Rathwell and Michael and Theresa
Wilhelm.
Exeter III were on the losing end of
a 5-0 decision against league leading
St. Columban. The Exeter youngsters
gave it their best but it wasn't good
enough.
Luke Sims and Jeff Campbell were
excellent for Exeter III.
Exeter IV had a week off.
In atom play, Exeter I moved into
second place by virtue of a 3-2 win
over previously unbeaten Nairn H.
Marty DeBruyn was superb both of-
fensively and defensively and goalie
Brent Urlin played net like a pro.
Brian McAllister scored Exeter's
first goal and Marty DeBruyn follow-
ed with two goals. His second came
with two minutes left in the game
from a penatly shot. Ryan Beckett
also played well.
Exeter I1 travelled to Grand Bend
for a game this week. It was a close
countest with Chad Gilfillan scoring
the lone Exeter goal.
Both teams had • ample oppor-
tunities but could not capitalize.
Goalie ('ory Culemba played a
strong game for Exeter II.
In exhibition play. Exeter Ii played
an exciting game against Goderich
for a 3-2 win.
Bryce Hann played a starring role
for Jxeter II in this game.
In Mosquito play, Exeter 1 remain-
ed in first place after a scoreless draw
with second place St. Columban.
In a close and exciting game, Den-
nis Welsh recorded the shut out for
Exeter I.
David Morlock Rielly Dobson and
Chris Neil played a standout game for
Exeter I.
Exeter II put out a good team effort
but it was not enough to beat a strong
Lucan team.
The lone goal for Exeter II in this
2-1 loss was scored when Joel Camp-
bell converted a corner kick taken by
Jamie Vandam.
In Peewee play, Exeter 1 and Ex-
eter Ii put on a fine display of soccer
for parents and fans.
in first half action it was Exeter i1
that took a 2-0 lead on goals by Dan-
ny Vanderlaan and Tim Brandbut in
the second half Exeter -1 staged a
comeback that fell just short of tieing
the game.

Hit and Miss are champs
The weather co-operated on the
weekend for those participating in the
Hensall Kinsmen and Kinettes mixed
slo-pitch tournament, 'and the 16
teams that participated in the event
took full advantage of the sunshine.
In the 'A' division Clinton Hit and
Miss beat out Fluffy's White Oaks 17-5
to advance to the finals where they'
met Mohawk Misfits.
Misfits, one of the more successful
slo-pitch teams in the area, made
their way into the 'A' final after down-
ing Mount Carmel in the semi-finals,
but they were unable to pull out a win
against the Ilit and Miss.
Clinton managed to record a 5-4 win
in what turned into an exciting match -
up. That win allowed them to claim
the 'A' division trophy along with $200
in cash as well as Miller hats and OV
mugs.
In the 'B' division. Tip Top Taylors
defeated Poops Bunch 4-1 to advance
to the final against Crediton Throw-
togethers.
Throw-togethers made their way
into the final after handing Odds 'n
Ends a 12-6 loss in the semi-final.
Throw-togethers, who finished the
tourney with a record of three wins
and one loss. defeated Tip Top
Taylors decisively by a score of 10-2.
The Crediton team received $100 in
prize money along with Miller hats
and OV mugs.

against a strong West Lorne team. In
the first hall Exeterlef behind 2-0
against a bigger and better team.
The second half showed a different
scenario with the Exeter squad out
playing West Lorne but not able to
convert their excellent chances into
goals.
Final score was .f -u for West Lorne.
Peter McAllister. Kevin Johns, Dan
Vanderlaan and Ron Dube played an
excellent tournament.
in Bantam -play. Exeter travelled to
Delaware for a game this week.
After two losses in a row. Exeter
got back on the winning track.

on hole number four at the Iron-
wood golf club June 13. A left-
handed golfer, he used a seven
iron to hit the ball 132 yards. The
hole in one was witnessed by
