HAROLD DAVIS he Kirkton WomenSlnstitute met at Heywood's Restaurant May 28 for - their annucal Secret Pal supper as 27 ladies sat down to a delicious stuffed roast pork dinner. The program was in charge of Marion Urquhart, Eleanor Williams and Evelyn Wiles. Mrs. Fred Parkinson read the minutes. There was a discussion on Quilted Wall hanging contest "Rural Season" open to all residents of Perth County and bordering counties Huron, Middlesex, Wellington, Waterloo and Oxford for the, International Ploughing match to be held in Perth County in 1988. It was moved we give a donation to the Butler Project. Mrs. Mervin Shute announced that the Perth County W.I. Cook Book for the International Ploughing match 1988 is now on sale. Mrs. Eleanor Williams volunteered to look after the Cook Books. She also said that the New Hand- book will be available at the North I3ay Conference in July. Mrs. Mervin Shute gave the highlights of the district annual held in Kirkton on May 19th. She said that the Summary Day for "Short Order Meal" will be held at the Stratford Colliseum on June 2 at 8 p.m. 1987. She also reported that Perth Coun- ty has the largest number of 411 members. Mrs. Marvin Hartwick gave the report on the afternoon session. It was planned a visit to the Ritz Villa, Mitchell in August. It was decided to have a Secret Pal Supper and gift exchange again next year. Cromarty By MRS. ROBERT LAING Neighbors of Eldon and Gladys Alien, who are moving at the end of June, met on Wednesday night at the home of Bob and Ruth Laing for a farewell party. Winners at euchre were Lillian Douglas, Carlyle and Penny Meikle, Isabel Kerslake and Charlie Douglas. Following an address of good wishes, the Aliens were presented with a pair of Grecian Urn planters. Several from Cromarty attended Ilibbert United Church anniversary service in Staffa on Sunday morning. Cromarty Prsbyterian's service was cancelled. Charlie and Lillian .Douglas left Monday to visit cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Forward, of Elgin, in eastern Ontario. Later in the week they are in- vited to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary with the Rev. Robert and Mrs. Mackie of Toronto. Margaret Allen, Guelph, spent Saturday with her parents, Bob and Ruth Laing. During the afternoon we took a walk to see the beaver dam at the back of Jean Carey's farm, We didn't see the beavers but found their dam, and their house farther upstream.
