While the weekend was very cold,
it also was a very busy one around the
Horne.
A very sincere thank you to our
volunteer auctioneers, The Hon. Jack
Riddell, M.P.Y., and Mr. John Finlay
of J.F. Auctions, fort heir services, to
the Board Members and staff who
assisted in getting all the furniture
moved and set up. as well as the
many people who attended to make
the sale the success that it was.
Birthday congratulations are ex-
tended to Mrs. Rose Laub who
celebrated her 90th birthday on Sun-
day afternoon with a family gather-
ing in the auditorium which brought
her many goal wishes and gifts from
many of her relatives. Refreshments
were served by the Ladies Auxiliary.
A piano and organ recital was held
on Thursday evening by Miss Idella
Gabel and her music pupils which

was a good experience for the
students and enjoyed by all who at-
tended it.
We appreciate having Mr. Marc
Chalut back home again from the sun-
ny south. Thanks to him the residents
enjoyed a scenic bus ride on Friday
afternoon.
Get well wishes are extended to
Mrs. Jessie Brock, a patient in St.
Joseph's Hospital, London, Mr. Alvin
Steckle who is presently in South
Iluron ltospital, Exeter. and Mr. John
Cornish who is a patient in Victoria

The regular bingo was held on Fri-
day evening in the auditorium which
is always looked forward to by the
many residents who enjoy it.
Rev. Stephen Alles of Sl. Peter's
Lutheran Church, Zurich, conducted
the Sunday morning chapel service
and was assisted during the. service

St. Boniface CWL meets,
May trip winner named
Last Wednesday, May 20. 30 ladies
attended the St. Boniface C.W.L.
meeting held in the gym. It was nice
to see our. president Bridget- Groot
back with us again, after her fall in
March.
A letter was read inviting our
league to the annual pilgrimage in St.
Marys at the Shrine on July 13 with
Father Patrick Moore, which will be
from the 11:00 Mass to 2:30. stations,
Rosary, blessing of the sick and
Benediction.
A very interesting and informative
report of the recent con•.•ention held
in . Windsor was given by. Mary
Regier..Plans are underway to attend
the Big National CWL convention
which is being held this year in Lon-
don at the Holiday Inn from August
17 to 20. The last time it was held in
London was 40 years ago.
Our next meeting will be held on
June 16 with Mrs. Margaret Visscher
speaking on health, and stress
problems.
Joan Kegler won the door prize and
we all enjoyed hearing Madeline
Wisser tell us things about the
Maplewoods Apts. and how nice it is
. to live there.

A family get-together and birthday
party were held on Sunday at 1he

of her 82nd birthday on May 24, at-
tended by her children and some
friends from ('11nton. •
On Sunday a family get-together
and .brunch was held at the home of
Mozart and Marie Gelinas Sr. follow•-
ing the 11:15 mass, to celebrate the
First holy Communion of grand-
daughter- I1lalinda Gelinas ( London
at St. 13onllace Church. Malinda.will
also be making her Group Commu-
nion at her pai•ish in London this Sun-
day. May 31.
• On May 3, a First 'Communion Par-
ty and dinner was held at the Zurich
Dominion Tavern in honor of -Tanya,
(laughter of Pat and Jane Bedard and
:Andrew, son of Larry and Monica
Bedard with •26 guests attending. It
was -hosted by their grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence (Patty)
Bedard.

Kindergarten - Ilomemade ice
cream sure is delicious! We enjoyed
listening to the dairy princess tell us
about the different kinds of cows and
the many products made from milk.
We are all trying to eat nutritious
snacks.
Our class brought their favourite
bears to school. Leanne Pergel had
the softest bear' and Jeanine Melick
had the biggest bear. We sewed
bears, painted bears and decorated
bear homes. We all hada "beary" in-
teresting month.
(;rade one and two - On Friday,
May 15, our class presented the Vic-
toria Day assembly. In preparation
for it, we learned some facts about the
Royal families. Many of us shared our
books about the Royal family. We
studied about our country and why
many people from other countries
have chosen Canada for their homes.
We are also keeping bu sy reading
"Monster" and "Dinosaur" books.
Grade three and four - On May 1,
grades three and four had a spring
assembly.'The primary choir sang
and grade three and four presented
some French skits.
On May 2, Jayne Westlake, Jen-
nifer McGee, and Angela Erb, were
on a mini -course about colours.
Grade five and six - The school year
is coming to an end quickly. We are
already counting the number of
school days left for the. year.
In Gym class the grade 5,6 class is
starting to prepare for (rack and field.
Soccer is still being played by some
but others have started to play
baseball outside at recess.
In math, the grade 5 class is study-
ing graphing and -co-ordinates.
Everyone found this to be easy.
The country of Japan is about to be
studied through project assignments.

A few are already studying various
books related to Japan and its culture.
We have had superb debating ses-
sions about the value of wetlands. A
survey will be done to see how the
community regards this resource. A
field trip in June will highlight this
topic.
The novel "A Secret Garden" has
everyone anxiously awaiting the next
chapter.
Grade seven and eight , On Thurs-
day, May 7. five different schools per-
formed at the Wintario Draw in the
Hensall Arena. A huge crowd of peo-
ple came to see it.
This month the Royal Canadian
Legion came to our school and we ap-
peared on a video tape. The tapes
were made in case we are missing.
The.tapes can be shown to the peotSle
in the hope somebody finds us.
We would . like to congratulate
Derick McGee for winning fourth
place in the Canada -Wide Science
Fair held at the Erindale Campus in
Toronto.
On Wednesday. May 21, our school
was visited by the St. Marys
Children's Choir. They sang a number
of selections for our students. All of
the students here enjoyed it. We hope
to hear them again. They were great !
These past few days -we have been
running around our school in order to
run 50 kilometres. To run one km: ypu
have to run around the school four
times. So far it is going very well. and
a lot of people seem to he
participating.

really had reason to celebrate this
month. It was 'her birthday May 22.
also on the holiday weekend she flew -
to Vancouver and returned to school
as Mrs, Jessop. Best wishes are ex-

Science winners
The region of Huron County was
well represented in the winner's cir-
cle at the 26th annual Canada -wide
Science Fair. held between May 10-17
in Mississauga.
Tom Cull, a grade eight student at
East Wawanosh School in Belgrave
captured a bronze medal in the Junior
Physical Sciences category for his
project., entitled. "Strength of Con-
struction". Cull also received a 8100
cash award from Dow Chemical
Canada Inc.
Derick McGee, a.grade eight stu-
dent at Zurich Public School won an
honorable mention in the Junior
Physical Sciences category for his
project entitled, "The Effect of Pilch
and Diameter on Thrust."
The 1987 Canada -wide Science Fair
attracted 400 student scientists from
76 regions across Canada to compete
for $60,000 in cash, awards and
"cholarships. •

crutches she'' used since an operation
on her foot about six weeks ago.

Rosetta Laub celebrated her 90th
birthday at the Bluewater Rest
Home in Zurich on •May 20.
Formerly of Dashwood, Mrs.
Laub is in excellent health except
for failing eyesight. One of her
favourite hobbies is stuffing toy
