Windy weather
for lady golfers
Despite the windy condition Tues-
day many brave gals took to the
course and reported a real good time
at the Exeter Golf and Country Club.
Mighty Shirley Davidson again led
the field with low gross and Marg
Lovell and -Bette Smith tied for low
putts.
Most honest golfer was Note Smith.
Note claims she golfs much hotter in
Florida. Well. I believe her! Bette
Smith was again lucky in finding the
hidden hole. Way to go Bette.
Some of the less hardy members
(chix) joined the golfers for lunch and
enjoyed a few rounds of cards.
By the way Ron Bilesky says if we
get rained out any Tuesday to come
out on Thursday morning. Weather
permitting.
See ya next week.

Tips
By Ron Bileski e
• - C.P.G.:. Professional
According to a recent study. putting
accounts for 50 percent of all shots
golfers play. If putting is half your
game, it deserves half your practice
time. How many players do you know
who extend' that kind of effort on
putting?
How many do you know who've
ever taken a putting lesson''
Everything you do on the greens must
be more precise and repeatable than
it is for your other shot making
because there's less margin for error.
Putting is mostly feel and touch and
judging distance. Throw in good
mechanics and you are a good putter.
The grips used in putting range from
the standard grips with various adap-
tations. to one of the most commonly
used grips called the reversed
overlapping. All fingers of the right
hand are placed on the shaft.
The left hand is placed at the top of
the shaft in its normal position except
that the index finger overlaps the lit-
tle finger of the right hand. The
pressure is relaxed so that both

Her jump in Windsor measured 5.24
metres and was above the target of

putter.
Place the club face at right angles
to the intended path of the putt, allow-
ing the. sole of the putter to rest
naturally. Keep your eyes focused
-directly over the ball as you take your
stance: Keep your lower body sta-
tionary throughout the backswing.•
Your hands. arms. and shoulders take
the club away low to the ground and
slightly inside.
The same triangle ( hands, arms,
shoulders) brings the club back and
through to the hole. To what length
you swing back and through and with
what amount_ of force will depend on
the type of putting angle ( uphill.
dow•nhill..side hill) and type of green .1
i fast or slow ). •
.These 'variables you must learn to
detect. This knowledge will be
reflected as you formulate a putting
-routine which should be as strongly
established as other parts of your
game. '.
