The readers write I was disappointed to read in. the May 20 edition of Times Advocate that. as part of pre -publicity for Par- ticipaction Fitness Challenge, Mayor Bruce Shaw had been arrested for being physically unfit. For some years now, I have envied Bruce for being in sti a physically fit condition. This fact should not be challenged. I can state this em- phatically because [ know Bruce par- ticipates regularly on a daily basis in a skipping program. Fran assures me he never "skips" a day. To avoid the possibility of any repercussions from my Jump Rope for Heart Committee of which both Bruce and Steve Campbell, Recrea- tion Director, Clinton, are valued members, I have taken the liberty to present Constable Brad and Rec Director Lynne with a "speed rope" compliments• of the Jump Rope for Heart Committee, Huron County Chapter. Surely!? Now if you've never had a shot of cod liver oil you've missed a real treat. That stuff, on a scale of 1 to 10, would be somewhere around minus 100. Just writing about it can bring back that fine flavour. It seemed to stick to your teeth all day no matter how often you got to the water fountain. But the worst was always yet to follow. I'm not quite sure now why my parents sent the dime for milk for us to school. We always had plen- ty of milk at home but anyway it must have been considered the right thing to do. That milk must have been specially warmed by the milk truck driver because by the time we got itthe white stuff Was about room temperature. Of course in those days it wasn't homogeniz- ed so the cream would rise to the top' of the bottle in little yellow blobs. The routine was cod liver oil first, then the pint of milk and dismissal, all under the eagle eye of the teacher who considered it her duty to make su't-e that all of us poor urchins received our pro- per dosage of vitamins and calcium. Amazingly enough I survived but till this day whenever I taste milk which is not ice-cold 1 remember that doggone cod liver oil.
