It has sprung
Spring theme for Hibbert YCW

"Spring has Sprung" was the
Theme chosen for the May meeting of
the Hibbert United Church Women,
held in the Family Life Centre
Wednesday evening.
. Mrs. Verle Mahon opened the
meeting with the story of Creation us-
ing background music complete with
bird and insect sounds.
Mrs. Margaret Miller chaired the
business portion, when members
decided to collect craft supplies for.
Camp Bimini. There is to be a extra
donation to M & S givings to mark the
25th anniversary of the United Church
Women.
Members were reminded of the up-
coming event at Camp Menesetung in
June. Following an exchange of
plants and bulbs members enjoyed

Start course -
The first meeting of the short
course, - "Short , Order Meals" was
held in the township hall on Thursday
evening with 15 -ladies present.
Mrs. Kay Striate introduced the
course and she and Mrs. Lillian
Douglas discussed efficiency in your
•kitchen, meal planning, fast food with
style, seasonings, and leftovers. -
Mrs. Douglas had prepared a com
plete menu of chicken ala Dejonnaise,
orzo. buttered peas, and peach cob-
bler, which everyone sampled and en-
joyed at the close of the meeting.
The final meeting is planned for
Tuesday May 26. with everyone to
bring a dish prepared from the
manual for all to sample and enjoy.

Jim Norris and Wyn. Brantford
visited on the weekend with Mrs. Or-
pha Norris and Bob and Bernice Nor-
ris. On Wednesday they enjoyed a
surprise visit from Mrs. Margaret
Brad, St. John's Newfoundland.

Margaret lioward, London and Lor-

Saturday with John and Marj Drake,
Margaret and Kile remaining for a
few days.
Mrs. Tony Simons and boys are
visiters with Mr. and Mrs. Simons,
Woodstock for a few days.
At time of writing Bruce Armstrong
and Hobert McCaughey are patients
at Stratford General Hospital and
Mrs. Cliff Miller a patient at Seaforth
Community Hospital. We wish you all
a good recovery.

weather was beautiful.
The senior citizens gathered at
Keegans Inn Monday for their regular
card party with prizes going to Tom
Kooy, Ed Armstrong, Elizabeth Con-
lin, Joe Carter and Earl Dixon.
Owing to the enthusiasm of the
players we will continue on with our
gatherings with the next one on May
25 at 2 p.m. Everybody welcome.

A busy place .in the village is the
ball diamond at the Community Park.
A new home run fence has just been
installed. Plans are now under way
for the grand opening. This was sup-
posed to have been last fall but was
cancelled due to the rains. The open-
ing is planned for Saturday June 13.
A baseball tournament which will
get under way on Friday evening and
then starts again early Saturday,
breaking at 3:30 p.m. with the open-
ing ceremonies at 4 p.m. to be follow-
ed bya beef barbecue in the evening
then it'll be the final two champion-
ship ball games.
Tickets are on sale by the members
or at local stores for adults $6. and
children $3. So this is the weekend to
invite your family and friends back to
Centralia.
The parks board also report that the
donations are coming in but they
would like to see everybody make a
better effort.
There are still some spots available
to buy on the fences This is where you
pay $250 for 50 feet, and your name is

Service at St. Patrick's was early'
Sunday morning with Rev. F. Braby
in charge. Mrs. Wayne Carroll was
pianist and Mrs. Nadine was reader.
There was a meeting in Kirkton last
week with representation from Gran-
ton, Saintsbury and Kirkton. We are
to have our minister by August 1.
Next Sunday service is planned for I 1

spent the holiday weekend with her

Ladies Aid meets
at Cromarty

Jean Carey was hostess for the
May mooting of Cromarty Ladies Aid.
The president. Pearl James opened it
with a Mother's Day poem.
Lillian Douglas gave the devotions
and the meditation on idols and false
gods. It discussed what prayer is and
to whom we pray.
For the roll call members recalled
the first movie they ever saw in a
theatre.
During the business, the evening of
June 8 was set for a housecleaning,
bee at the church. Many hands make
light work soa good turnout would be
appreciated. The menu for' the
strawberry supper on Jupe 17 was
discussed. Eva Laing, contact person
for Crieff Hills, reported . on their
future building plans. -
Mrs. Douglas conducted a contest
and the meeting closed with a hymn
accompanied by Mrs. Carey.
The strawberry supper committee
inet at the home -of Doris Miller on
Wednesday evening to make plans for
the supper.
