Mary Fran Gaiser was reader at the 11 a.m. mass, with Paul Dietrich as cantor and organist. Lydia Duchou led the choir in "Here Am I Lord" and "Pass It On", dur- ing the communion. Mary Fran Gaiser, Martin Stokkerman and Walt Costello were eucharistic ministers. In his sermon, Father Morrissey discussed our relationship with God OLDTIMERS WIN TOURNEY — The Grand Bend Oldtimers hockey team won three games in the last two minutes of play at Lions Head. Earthly fathers have the same limitations we do - they don't have all the answers, they fail us, they leave, they die. Jesus used the idea of God the Father as the central reality of his teaching, to heal the breach in our relationship caused by our sins and restore the loving trust between God and man. God is our wise, strong, heavenly Father, and we ought to be His loving children. Congratulations to the following parishioners who received the sacra- ment of Confirmation this past week: Cathy Peters, Frieda Michielsons, Albert Schoeley, David Vrollyk, Lynn Adams and Tracy Baltessen. Also congratulations to to Kristy Hodgins, who received Jesus for the first time in the Sacrament of Holy Communion last week. Retreats are scheduled at the Holy Family Retreat House: May 22-24 is a retreat for A.A. men and friends; May 26-28 is a midweek retreat for women; May 29-31 for A.A. men and friends. CWL members, remember the monthly meeting on May 25 at 8 p.m. at the Alhambra Hall, and bring a friend with you for the guest speaker. United Church Women A happy mother's week floral spray adorned the table for the afternoon unit of United Church Women's meeting, held in the SS rooms at church last Thursday afternoon. The opening worship was given by Annie Morenz, on a theme of mothers. She read a mother's verson of love which is a paraphrase of the well known 13th chapter of I Corinthians applied to the homemaker. Two verses of the hymn "Come let us sing of a wonderful love," were repeated by all. The story of one mother's love was read by Mrs. Morenz about a son who left home for overseas, and many years later, by a strange coincidence found his mother's Bible among some books along with a letter. This changed his life and he became a devoted Christian. The worship service concluded with Beulah Holt singing the chorus of M- O -T -H -E -R. - Hazel Brood spoke to the ladies on World Outreach for program. Mrs. Brood and her husband were given sponsorship of a 13 -year-old Indian girl for Christmas. She had a picture and letter from the child. She also told about two Canadian missionaries, Mark and Hulda Buntain, who went to Calcutta in 1954. They now have 900 on staff. Some of their projects are that 25,000 are fed daily, there are 12,700 students in school, and 12,000 receiv- ing treatment monthly at hospital and clinics. Mrs. Brood also reported on the Huron Perth Presbytery meeting held at Kirkton Community Centre, which she and Loreen Gill, Eleanor Durie and Irene Kennedy attended. President, Loreen Gill presided for the business. She welcomed new member, Enid Warren. Roll call was answered by 23, by bringing a picture of their mother and a craft item for the August bake sale. United Church service Jean Cassidy and Elizabeth Norris welcomed the congregation Sunday at the Victoria weekend service at the GB ,United Church. The yellow mums at the foot of the cross were placed there in memory of Mrs. Eva Gill by her family. Rev. R. Peebles told the children that many times we try to do things our own way, often messing them up. Mother showed little Sue how to lace up her shoes, just as Jesus is our guide. Bob Southcott read the Bible. lessons from 1 Kings 9: and Luke 6: wherein Peebles message "Strong Houses" was based. He said that the youths of today need encouragement with four strong walls, to meet the pressures out in the world. The key is temperance in all things lawful and good. This Sunday don't forget the groups who Will be getting pictures taken after the service for the photo direc- tory. Also the 24th is Gideon Sunday and conference service run by the members of session. The GB Couples club will be selling 60th anniversary pens. There are still a few tickets left for the Schneider male chorus who will be here on Wednesday, May 27 at 8:00 p.m Church of God On the busy holiday weekend, the Church of God welcomed all who at- tended, including some guests. Rev. Desjardine opened the morning wor- ship. George Winegarden led the hymns and read the scripture. A duet was sung by Phyllis Desjardine and Joy Mason, "Blessed Jesus Hold My Hand". The pastor in his sermon asked these questions. "What Controls Us? Does the Love of Christ Control Us? Do We Live For Him Each Day." Sunday evening service was con- ducted by Richard Desjardine. Alex Desjardine sang a solo "Tell Me His Name Again". Pastor Desjardine continued in. his sermon series on Psalm 119, "The Importance of the Word of God in Times of Affliction."
